Maybe not a Hero but a darn fine citizen @ 11.

It’s Sunday, and this story made me feel good about or multi-cultural, multi-race country. I am proud to call many of different skin colors friends. I am also proud to be involved with other cultures on occasion…because we all have something to offer to others.

Spanish speaking boy hailed as a hero.

Often I see on ATS the sharp and caustic replies to posters that have English as a second language, and it makes me mad.

Imagine being injured and unable to communicate. I hope someone has even rudimentary ability to speak and understand english if I’m hurt in another country…because english is my only language! Bravo to those that took the time and energy to learn a second language...and especially those that learned english. I may need you someday!

Well done that boy! As much deserving of the much abused 'Hero' label as anyone Imo.
Gracias Joven

Fantastic story for a Sunday. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Perhaps this should teach us english-only speakers a lesson? Learn a foreign language!! But, which one?

Thanks again.

As I think about this more, wouldn't it be a bit of irony if he was NOT a citizen of the United States? Or even more irony if he was illegal?

We all have something to offer to others, and others all have something to offer to me. A stranger is only one question away from being a cherished friend.

I couldn't agree with you more!
I have always been told that there is good and bad everywhere in the world. We focus too much on the bad, i think. Thus we distrust strangers.

Thank-you to all that responded. I want others on this forum to see the young man in the same light we see him in. The only way others see this post is by way of your responses.

I for one, need to feel good about something daily. This is the kind of young person I aspire to raise my daughters to be, and that makes me feel good.

The people who come to ATS with english as a second language come here with courage, becuse they have seen how others are treated for simple gramatical errors. Yet they come and post as part of our community. I have yet to have problems understanding the basis for the post, no matter the presentation.

I come here to let you all make me think...and I want to help others do the same.

Very good story.

In most cases like these, the individuals are too traumatized to speak or think.

Pretty impressive that this young lad had the ability to think clearly and help others.

I'm thinkin' he'd make good Marine material! Clear head...smart...and dedicated to mankind. Injured and still helping others. Sounds like a Marine to me. Sounds like the kind of citizen I'd like my daughters to be.

Sent an e-mail to him c/o the hospital...hope he gets it!
