In these Olympics, Canadians only paid attention to Canada

www.star-telegram.com

Canada wanted to hold a party, and the Canadians did. The gold medals only seemed to fuel them.

Team Canada hockey jerseys became the uniform of the streets. Maple leafs were either hanging or on clothing everywhere.

One thing I never saw: a simple flag or shirt with the five Olympic rings. Not anywhere. After 15 Olympics, that was a first.

I didn't attend the '36 Olympics, but I've seen the pictures. Swastikas everywhere.

Ok... Now, I understand that this guy was probably just a little upset about the turnout of the Olympics, but likening Canadians to the NAZIS? Should we be making fun of him for applauding the Americans record number of medals acquired? NO. I don't believe we should. The American Olympians had a KICK ASS medal turnout, and I whole heartedly applaud their hard work! GO USA! Your guys did amazingly.

I am saddened that our (Canadian) athletes didn't bring home more medals overall, but hell... Our Gold medal turnout was awesome as well.

Back to the article in question; I have one question for the fool who wrote the article in the first place:

ARE YOU FRIGGING SERIOUS, YOU POMPOUS ASS?

I have never been so disappointed in a commentary, as I am with this one. I believe, personally, that this guy needs to take his head out of his ass.

There was embracing, all right, but then Canadians have always had the reputation for drinking a lot of beer. The loose marijuana laws only added to the nightly revelry in the downtown streets -- which, frankly, seemed to have little to do with the Olympics.

Slamming our celebrations for winning the gold? Would he rather we sat back and celebrated the Americans placing SECOND in the referenced 'GOLD MEDAL HOCKEY celebration'? What would have been his response if the games were held in the U.S., and we Canadians had lost the game? Probably along the lines of:
"I can't believe the Canadians would leave our gold medal celebrations... what sore losers" or something to that effect.

I would honestly punch this goof, straight in the mouth were I to encounter him in the streets.

What are your thoughts?
Do you agree with this fool?

Lets try to keep this a healthy talk, instead of one of those 'my country is better than yours' threads.

I hope I've been clear in this thread. I'll read it over again once I've woke up a bit more, and hope I haven't been unclear.

I look forward to healthy debate.

The guy is a nob.

The Olympics were held in Canada , what other jersey's was he expecting?

Next Winter's are in Russia, guess what jeresy's you will see?

The US set a medal count record, Kudo's.

Canada set a Gold Medal record, Kudo's.

Kudo's all around to a successful Olympics.

Don't let *snip* this reporter Taint it.

Thanks for the reply. I hope we're not alone in thinking he's a complete nob. I hope to also hear some more responses from children of other countries, to see if others had come to the same conclusion as this writer had originally submitted to his paper.

I have never seen such patriotism in Canada as I have seen during the Oympics. It was refreshing and inspiring. During the gold medal hockey game we were at a sports bar and the place ERUPTED for Crosby's goal. Then we all stood on tables, chairs, etc shoulder to shoulder man/woman and child and Sang O Canada, I"LL NEVER FORGET IT!!! We need more of this not just during sporting events!!

That has to be the worse comparison he could have ever made.

To be honest I really didn't watch much of it. I was driven away by Clara Hughes teeth.

This reporter is a boob! This is the second article I've seen that's made outlandish comparisons. Another one I read compared the tragic death of the Georgian Luger to the taking of Jewish athletes at Munich? I couldn't believe it and the fact that one act was accidental and the other intentional didn't seem to matter. They were one and the same to this bozzo reporter.

I live 1 block from the Yaletown Live City event and it was a blast for 2 weeks. The Olympics were worth all the money they spent as it was something good for Canada as a whole to revel in.

Reporters like this boob deserve to be sent back to journalism school to be re-taught the basics of journalism.

Add:

I went to the store 1 night about 1 week into the Olympics and is about 2 blocks from my house. I must have got about 50 "HIGH-5s" in the time it took me to walk there and back.

VERY COOL AND FUN

Hahaha a ludicrous comparisopn.

Canada did great at the Olympics and they have every right to be proud, so well done to them. That's all i've got to say really.

At the next games they'll just have to enforce some sort of "fairness doctrine" where all nations are equally represented among the audience regardless of their actual nationality or favorite.

It's only fair.

Here it is,
I was expecting a article that would bash us canadians, thought it would be something to do with our unorthodox closing ceremony, but I didnt think it would be because non of us were wearing the olympic logo...

Sometimes I wonder how people with such strong opinions get a job writing these things...

That's unfortunate. The games this year were off the charts. Good competition all around...

But if you missed it, the closing celebrations were hilarious. Seeing EVERY Canadian stereotype brought to the forefront, in such a tongue-in-cheek way was beautiful, eh (

Perhaps you could send the jersey to the author of the article, in hopes he won't feel so left out!!!

I wish I had one

"Just get in the train car, hosers. You'll, like, be reunited with your family at the end of the trip, we promise, eh!"

The linked story in the OP wins most ridiculous article of the day award. The author seriously needs to return to the rest of us here in reality land.

What I saw during the Olympics was a "coming together" of a country.

There were no politics, no differences of view, just a large group of people that were proud to be Canadian.

I hope that all the visitors from other countries had no bad experiences here and go back to their respective countries with nothing but good memories.

Congratulations... the jersey is a great prize, but the Sam Roberts show I reall envy you for. I can't wait to see the band play live myself. I gotta ask, though; did they do my favourite song?

www.youtube.com...

Anyways... the British Press has been slagging the Canadian olympics all along and my only reply to them is this:

"You're jealous, ain't ya? Eh? C'mon, fess up, you're just really, really jealous."
