Last year's crop circle season was amazing, we saw some very unusual and unique formations, and some were added to and modified.

We are going to be seeing some new formations in about a month or so and I can't wait! But before we see this years I would love to know which one(s) were your favourite from last year and why.

Here are my top three:

Quirky, unique and when I first saw this it really made me laugh!

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/9d68ecf79076.jpg[/atsimg]

Just simply amazingly intricate and detailed, Quetzalcoatl's Headdress.

Incredibly beatiful, detailed and feminine.

Ah yes, the 2009 crop circles. Each one was said to be predicting a catastrophic solar flare that was meant to hit us later the same month, but nothing. This happened like every month I'm pretty sure.

Good works of art though.

I agree that they are truly beautiful works of art, but this is not a thread about what they were or were not predicting, this is a thread about appreciating those works of art whatever or whomever made them.

Thanks for your contribution though.

I'm looking forward to the 2010 season....I wonder what the theme this year will be?

Excellent choices!

There did seem to be a bit of a living creatures theme last year, the Dragon fly was very detailed, the wings look incredible. And the mythilogical Phoenix rising from the ashes, just such a strong and proud image.

Incredible detail on the Phoenix's tail too:

I was just looking yesterday to see if any new ones had shown up yet. Last year was awsome and I would like to think this year will blow us away. Here is one of my favorites...there were so many great ones last year it was hard to choose.

Or maybe is just the brand new Draconian electromagnetic shaver, they are introducing to mankind, before make the deal with Pentagon, re-negotiating the contracts about secret human abductions... you know, sometimes I guess the aliens are using these fields as huge merchandising announcements to their products and we just didn't realize it yet...
Sorry, no offending, but sometimes sucks read tips about the meaning of crop circles. You know... You can be seeing an encrypted code with data to build a moon-sized space station and say it's the "headdress of Quetzalcoatl"...

The video is brilliant and its always good to hear Enigma. Something about their music , it seems to work with frequencies.

Quetzalcoatl's Headdress indeed.

Hello Eevee, good thread, especially in anticipation of 2010's CC's - I get the feeling there is a high expectation for this year's season, as evidenced by a steady, observable, and impressive increase in complexity, beauty and meaning within the previous years formations.

Some of my favourites that can be collated have been posted already; jellyfish and dragon fly - Continuing the creatures theme I also enjoyed the owl:

Woodborough Hill, Nr Alton Barnes, Wiltshire. reported 10th August.

Lets not forget the trilabite!

This too:

Simarly is the humming bird:
www.cropcircleconnector.com...

And finally butterfly:
www.cropcircleconnector.com...

There was also fish, birds and others with some being interpreted as different animals.

However, leaving the creatures behind, the other interesting feature of 2009 seemed to be the lay - This one's intricate lay set off my intrigue:

Silbury Hill (2), Nr Avebury, Wiltshire. Reported 3rd August.

Here's a ground shot of the weaved lay:

More ground shots of the lay of this crop circle here:
www.cropcircleconnector.com...

Now this one I think really pushed the boat out (although people have criticised the neatness of edges):

Here's a ground shot to show the weaved lay, great work:

And somewhere in between these two themes is what some are calling bacteria, but I much prefer sperm, hehe. This one developed over 3 days:

Cheers. x

I keep looking to see if any new ones have appeared yet too, but we don't normally see them start to appear in the UK until sometime in April, so not long now.

I like your choice of favourite, it originally looked to me like some sort of musical instrument, but as I'm sure you already know it evolved in three phases which is not unheard of but isn't the norm.

I think the face in the middle is what another poster was trying to point out to you:

Okay, if you see something different or nothing at all that's fine.

As soon as I saw this crop circle I immediately thought of Quetzalcoatl and coincidentally I had just been researching him that's why I refer to it as "Quetzalcoatl's Headdress".

Hello aenti,

I was so pleasantly surprised to read your excellent post as it was wonderful to know that someone else had been studying the intricate details of last years crop circles as closely as I did.

Thank you!

I think you're absolutely right about there being high expectations for this years crop circles, last years season was quite incredible at times and I'm bursting with excitement about this years, shouldn't be too much longer now.

Yes, the owl was rather visually stunning particularly the detailing around the edges.

Lets not forget the trilabite!

I was wondering what that was! The bit in the middle reminds me of Darth Vader's mask though.

And finally butterfly:
www.cropcircleconnector.com...

I found this particularly interesting as when it first appeared the Farmer cut around the edge of the design to spoil it I suppose, and the next day it had been repaired and added to lol!

However, leaving the creatures behind, the other interesting feature of 2009 seemed to be the lay - This one's intricate lay set off my intrigue:

This one intrigued me too, the different details in the centre's reminded me of something from a pagan ritual.

It looks amazing doesn't it? Whoever made this went to a lot of trouble with the weaving.

And somewhere in between these two themes is what some are calling bacteria, but I much prefer sperm, hehe. This one developed over 3 days:

A friend told me that it looked like sperm attacking an ova, I wish the Farmer hadn't tried to destroy it initially though.

Thanks again for your post, it was wonderful!

Eevee, how kind, much appreciated.

Indeed, the circle makers seemed insistent that the butterfly WILL get it's wings!

Please could you tell me about your pagan ritual reference. I don't know much about that, although I'm aware that human circle makers apparently perform intention rituals before making a formation - perhaps the two ideas are linked here?

The woven circle is definitely amazing; I had it as my desktop image since its creation, to this day!
The season finished with another cool formation that I didn't mention in my first reply - the largest maize formation to ever appear in England!

Knighton Hill, nr Wayland Smithy, Oxfordshire. Reported 29th August.

Interesting in itself but joining in with the devil in the detail this formation came complete with its own meditation dome!

I never noticed the ova before, totally see it now though! So over 3 days the sperm entered the ova - It really is as if the formations are coming alive!

See you in the fields!

Cheers. x

I don't really know very much about Pagan rituals either but when I saw the strange details within some of the circles they sort of looked like "offerings" almost, and I thought of the 1970's film The Wicker Man. In the film the inhabitants of the island practiced some sort of Paganism.

I don't know, this is just my interpretation of them, these features can also only be seen from the ground not from up high when the crop circles usually look better which is unusual.

Here are some photos of what I am referring to

You mentioed that the human circle makers perform rituals before making crop circles, I've never heard of that before, can you elaborate on that please?

Yes, from the air this formation is visually stunning, however at the ground level there was apparently mass destruction of the crop!

Most of the plants were ripped at the base, some were uprooted. Many footprints were found there also.

Once the investigators had found the field it took them an hour to find the formation, the plants are 8ft high. It would have been difficult for humans to to navigate around in the crop to make this, but not impossible.

Also some of the stems had been tied, and like you said there was a tent like structure.

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/0cdb43413666.jpg[/atsimg]

I am also puzzled by this formation, whoever made must have known there was not enough room for it to be complete so that was deliberate, but why?

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/18f4aaa611eb.jpg[/atsimg]

See you in the fields!

Yeah, maybe you will.

Do you go to see the crop circles every year?

Thanks!

Offerings yeah, I see what you mean, haven't seen The Wicker Man but makes sense. Whatever the intention or meaning, I think this lay detail is a beautiful addition to the mysterious evolution of CC's. If I remember rightly I found out about the human circle makers performing rituals from a video by Simeon Hein, a croppie who's done some interesting research. His site is here, and he has a mailing list:
www.mountbaldy.com...

He described joining a group for a circle making expedition and they performed a ritual (vague details include forming a human circle but memory and actual detail given don't give us much more than that) before entering the field to make the formation. Sounds like magick to me, perhaps a form of sigil magick.

Good point about the formation that interacts with the landscape - I really enjoy these (like the 'Pi' formation). The explanation I'm unsure of but regarding the one you imaged the only point I have is motion. Purely conjecture but it looks to be rolling out of the field. Similarly to the 'developing' formations (sperm>ova / butterfly wings etc.) are we seeing the formations brought to life - they're moving in the fields, maybe even rolling right out! Well, it does add another dimension to the art anyway, which is great.

I've never actually been in a crop circle yet but after avidly following them for a couple of years I'm definitely going to make it this year!

Cheers. x

They are all really good, but I think my favourites are the phoenix from the flames, yin/yang (2.28 and 4.02 mins into video) and of course Quetzalcoatl.

It's quite ironic that such a bad boy would indirectly give us such a beautiful crop circle.

Why do you say that? That Quetzalcoatl is a bad boy?
