America Will Collapse - Excellent interview with practical suggestions...

Yes, this is a Russian Today interview from March of 2009, and it is very timely indeed. The man who is expertly interviewed has some excellent suggestions for how Americans can prepare for the coming collapse, which will indeed happen... it's only a matter of timing.

The most important thing I thought he suggested was in response to the interviewer's question of what a person should do if they have a small amount of savings left in their bank account.

He said that the best thing to do was invest in some tools or equipment that could be used to run a small business, so you can offer a useful service to others, and thereby earn money to survive. This seemed very practical advice. He said if you are good at fixing things, then buy the tools you need to do that well. If you are good at sewing, purchase the equipment you need to make clothing. In other words, convert your cash to something that is useful in a period of flux, when the normal economy no longer exists, and things are being reshaped.

He also suggested that people really get to know their neighbors well, and start forming strong friendship groups so that people can care about each other and help each other during difficult times.

For all those people here on ATS that say RT is not a credible source, well I think you are the ones who are not credible. This interview is not only extremely professional, it is informative, substantive, and meant for adults who can think.

What is especially cool about this interview is the thoughtful questions asked by the interviewer and then the very practical responses given by the author/blogger being interviewed.

The vid is ever more true today.

I'm glad you liked it... I just found it very "true feeling" in that both the interviewer and author seemed to be genuinely concerned about the situation, and very interested in helping to prepare people mentally for what is about to happen at some point in the not-to-distant future.

I think the best thing to do with that money is to learn what wild foods you can eat in your local area and find out where a fresh source of water is located (make sure you buy the means to purify and transport it). Seeds would be very valuable to have too. Buying tools also makes sense but is not a guarantee.

Agreed, those are good things also, but just like the old saying "give a man a fish and feed him for a day... give a man a fishing pole, and feed him for a lifetime." Eating foods and drinking water is the bare minimum of what people need, and to get other things, one will likely need to barter, so having useful skills, and the equipment/supplies to provide those services, only makes sense.

Having seeds is fine, but remember, you need land that is available and safe, and you need TIME to grow the food, and you need the good weather. Each man having to grow his own food just seems rather difficult. It is far better to team with others and do it that way.

The true principles of "community" will be especially important when the current community structure (or lack thereof) falls apart.

If there is a short period of time in which the government has to shut down because they don't have the money to run day to day operations which would include the Justice Department. One could possible start up a still to make grain alcohol for fuel.

You'd get more if you used a net.

I've also heard about a method of sending an eletrical charge into the water. Apparently fish float to the surface after being tazed.

Of course, you could always just throw some dynamite into the water.

I suppose there are many more ways to fish.

I'm sure there are a few unorthodox methods listed in the anarchist cookbook.

Not a bad idea actually... when people face these kinds of things, having some alcohol to take the edge off may help some... the only down side is that drunk people can also be much more dangerous if they happen to have access to weapons...

Thanks for posting this excellent video.

I really resonated with the answers in this interview. In that this is exactly what I believe the US and the rest of the world need to be doing now -> Sharing and Cooperating with one another. If we could do this now on a world wide scale, we might be able to avert the pending economic collapse.

I think there is a great deal to be learned from the collapse of the Soviet Union and the associated oil shortage in Cuba. The thing that keeps me up at night is what it will take to change peoples competitive mindsets into cooperative mindsets. The aforementioned countries were already cooperatively-minded before collapse, their life-support systems were built with redundancy, and their people were already living together. There will be much more stress and fallout from these system changes in our society. Our bridge of adaptation from the here and now to the survivable future is much longer.
