A musical realization of the motion graphics of John Whitney as described in his book "digital harmony".

the universe is comprised of ratios. any comparison of either physical or behavioral relationships can be expressed as a ratio.

here, the artist Jim Bumgardner has related frequency harmonic ratios as a function of time. the dots move in speed relative to one another, creating a spectrum of fast to slow. this spectrum is then overlayed with audible frequency from high to low, and then again overlayed with the color spectrum of visible light.

the result is not only fascinating and hypnotic, but seems fundamental and perhaps useful in creating a scientific model of the order of the universe. analysis and speculation of this animation may turn up interesting results....

was the artist correct in relating color and audible frequency?

if so, were the proper relationships achieved?

are the patterns that emerge meaningful?

__________

or, you could just sit back and let it take your head for a spin.

I believe what he says is probably right but to be honest I didn't quite "feel" it as well as I had expected. I did feel some correlation between sounds and patterns but it wasn't particularly profound.

Maybe that's just me though. I think this is a worthy thread so I'll give you a flag.

I saw this on digg years ago. There is nothing profound about it. He's just trying to connect things that should not be connected. Much like synesthesia.
