Welcome to the 21st century, where we use science and technology all day, every day. We live in houses and apartments that use engineering technology to be built. We go to work in skyscrapers that use engineering technology to be built. We use electricity; watch TV, the Internet, read books, drive cars, launch satellites that circle the Earth, and cook food in the oven or stove that all required a major technological breakthrough to benefit our lives.

However, when it comes to scientists helping us understand, “Who we are, Where did we come from, or Why we are here?” that information is discarded like trash. Sure you can keep your live simple if you are content with the biblical explanation of creation, but it is just that. A biblical explanation! That means it is an explanation that came from people that lived in biblical times, 2000+ years ago.

You have to remember that 2000+ years ago we thought the Earth was flat, we thought the Sun and planets revolved around the Earth, and then we came up with the simplest solution ever, “God did it.”

So why is it that we are all capable of using modern technology with all of our scientific breakthroughs, but when it comes to creation, we revert back to people’s ideas from the Biblical Ages?

When you put your faith in religion, you aren’t just putting your faith in the hands of god, you are putting your faith and beliefs with the ideas of people 2000+ years ago. These ideas and stories were changed countless times from the 1st century to the 20th century, whether it was done through translation, or deliberately by people that just didn’t agree or found a flaw. When you put your faith in the bible you are really just listening to what people thought and said 2000+ years ago instead of listening to what people are saying today, in the 21st century. You are not thinking for yourself, you are just following the herd.

Type in Google, “first bible ever” this is the site that comes up. Is it a 100% correct? I doubt it, but this is what we have to go on.

www.greatsite.com...

- 1,400 BCE (aka BC): The first written Word of God: The Ten Commandments delivered to Moses.

- 500 BCE: Completion of All Original Hebrew Manuscripts which make up The 39 Books of the Old Testament.

- 200 BCE: Completion of the Septuagint Greek Manuscripts which contain The 39 Old Testament Books AND 14 Apocrypha Books.

- 1st Century CE (aka AD): Completion of All Original Greek Manuscripts which make up The 27 Books of the New Testament.

- 1384 CE: Wycliffe is the First Person to Produce a (Hand-Written) manuscript Copy of the Complete Bible; All 80 Books.

- 1455 CE: Gutenberg Invents the Printing Press; Books May Now be mass-Produced Instead of Individually Hand-Written. The First Book Ever Printed is Gutenberg's Bible in Latin.

1535 CE: Myles Coverdale's Bible; The First Complete Bible printed in the English Language (80 Books: O.T. & N.T. & Apocrypha).

1539 CE: The "Great Bible" Printed; The First English Language Bible Authorized for Public Use (80 Books).

1885 CE: The "English Revised Version" Bible; The First Major English Revision of the KJV.

1901 CE: The "American Standard Version"; The First Major American Revision of the KJV.

*(BCE) = Before the Common Era, and (CE) = Common Era
**I changed them for Science and that’s all I changed.

So the bible as you know it did not exist until 1535. That is 1,500 years after the supposed death of christ and even then common people were not able to have their own copy until 1539. That was four years of *editing.* However, you still had to be wealthy enough to buy one and smart enough to read one. Adding in the 19th and 20th century edits, what on Earth did they need to edit the word of god for?

In the 1st century only a select few could read and write they were the elites. People had to get their information from what the more intelligent people were reading and saying. However today in the 21st century, we can all read, write, use the Internet, and think outside of the box to come to more logical conclusions. We are all our own individuals that can make up our own minds and escape from the follow the herd mentality.

The earliest known Homo sapien fossil ever found dates back to 195,000 years ago. If God created us why did he wait until 2,000+ years ago to send his son to teach us his desires?

www.fossilmuseum.net...
en.wikipedia.org...

It is a general conspiracy why this is not common knowledge and why this is still not believed by the masses to this day?

We know there are alternative theories out there, but we still refuse them, even though, the rest of science is widely accepted and used every day. I know it is the way you were raised, and if you were to escape from what you were brought up to believe, it would shatter your entire world, but it would be for the greater good of humanity. You would become more enlightened, more visceral, more real, and you would be able to say you have the ideas of a 21st century human being.

So get a grip of reality, stop and think independently for a second. There are better explanations for the history of creation of human beings than those compiled in the 1st century.

Well, plenty of people acknowledge all of this, and you're wording this as if we didn't... Scientists do not discard this question as if it were trash, though most of them have reached a dead end on where to go next. We have the theory of evolution, which explains it back to the beginning of life, though we've got a gap there; and we've got historical astrophysics (I don't actually know what that field is properly called), which explains things all the way back to the big bang, which is the next gap.

I'm sure you didn't mean to, but you seem to be blaming the ignorance of the general population on the wrong people: the people who are not ignorant, and the people who are actively countering this ignorance.

Philosophers are also concerned with "Who are we, where did we come from, and why are we here?" -- they are hardcore concerned with this. Continental philosokphy more than analytic, though

I know scientist to not discard the questions as trash or consider them insignificant. They are very significant. I am sorry I came off that way.

I used 'we' to accumulate all of us or the majority of us. The USA is a Christian/Catholic nation. At least 90% or more of our Presidents have been this religion.

I also didn't want to use the theory of evolution because I wanted everyone to feel like they have a choice of what to believe, not just evolution or creation. Although, those are the main two.

We live in the 21st century, not the 1st century. We don't have to follow the mold that is presented to our beings. This thread was in respond to the thread on how 60% of the Texans polled thought we at one time walked with the dinosaurs.

Great post. I wish I could write as well as you, I would likely not come off so angry all the time.

People do become ignorant as soon as they use "God did it" as a answer.
All of them not just the fundamentalist. It is the definition of ignorance.

Ignorance is the state in which one lacks knowledge, is unaware of something or chooses to subjectively ignore information. This should not be confused with being unintelligent

I am obviously guilty for calling people stupid for believing the world is 6000 years or that humans and dinosaurs coexisted, it is not stupidity it is the lack of them to even want to know the truth.

Look at any of the arguments they have no real facts, if they even tried to look into the facts they would see so many things completely wrong writings in the bible.

That will not stop them from there belief and it will not stop them from asking to see a Crocoduck or a monkeyfish ... no matter how stupid it makes them look they just refuse to learn what natural selection is.
( YES! idiots are still asking about these things
)

Hey thanks for the replies!

I like the definition of ignorance you have.
Especially, someone who "chooses to subjectively ignore information."

And you are correct, the bible doesn't have any facts, nor can it prove anything. It is just the 1st century's interpretation of the world. I don't see how a majority of us are still stuck in believing this.

Actually, there have been people who thought the earth was flat. Scientists learned it wasn't so early on, but that doesn't mean that common people always knew. For example, early vikings believed it, and there were ordinary people in Columbus's time who thought he was going to sail right over the edge of the world.

This is true, the ancient Greeks did work out that the Earth was indeed round, but the information was surpressed and wasn't proved to the masses until Christopher Columbus actually made his journey to North American and returned.

The bible uses things like " ends of the earth" "4 corners of earth" "The sun hurrys back to the start" and so on, all of witch sound a lot like a flat earth

The bible did not know much about the Earth anyways, Even if the bible says the Earth is round (It does not) it still shows lack on knowledge of Earth ..

“He has fixed the earth firm, immovable.”1 Chronicles 16:30

God .. Thinks Earth does not move.

Awesome post. This was something I was just recently wondering about....and here you come along and give me the dates and the exact answer to my question! Happy day!

According to your information, since 1535 we have the first written collection of a "bible". But one thing I find even more telling, is some of the art work that predates this collection by several hundred years. There are some messages there as well.

I think some very sinister groups have been in charge of what was written, re-written, and what was released. The bible is the ancient alchemists book and they have used it to turn lead into gold. They have found every way possible to milk that cow. And they have used "religion" and "charity" to do it.

Good documental information. Enjoyed your post.

People do not choose to be stupid, they choose to be be ignorant on a subject. So really it is the only proper definition when going into detail

.. I regret posting 1Chronicles 16:30 .. I have a feeling some genius is going to show up with ..

Gravity is just a theory, "intelligent falling" is the only way.

Er, no, this isn't true either. It wasn't suppressed -- people just didn't get it. At least in Greek society, they were open about it and really effing proud about how smart they were! Everytime they figured something out, they would go "YEAAAAAAH, CHECK OUT WHAT I KNOW."

Actually, that's not quite right.

The inventor of the flat earth error was a writer named Washington Irving. In 1828, Irving wrote a book entitled The Life and Voyages of Christopher Columbus. The book was historical fiction in which Irving invented a fictitious Columbus and then exalted him to the status of a semi divine hero.

Also, in 1945 the Historical Association (of Britain) listed "Columbus and the Flat earth Theory" as second among 20 misconceptions commonly held as truth.

There is mention of it here in connection with the Orb: www.abovetopsecret.com...

True, the Greeks showed off their information, they were very enlightened. However, during the Crusades and Dark Ages all relevant information that was contradictory to the bible was surpressed by those in power and by the church.

en.wikipedia.org...

en.wikipedia.org...

The Age of Enlightenment put an end to this of course, but many people seem to have missed this era in there history lessons. They continue to believe what was preached before this era, which was based on 1st century knowledge.

Religion is the best means for control. Tell people who, why, and what they are and they will not question their life. They will be happy to serve you.

Ok you are just nit-picking a very small irrelevant point in the thread. That is not the main theme. The main theme is that we have come 2000+ years/twenty centuries and still can not get over the reasoning of, "God did it."

Most of the people, including the Greeks, believed the Earth was the center of the solar system until the 15th-16th century. They also most likely believed the Earth was flat since Christopher Columbus was the first to propose and complete the journey of sailing across the Atlantic Ocean to China/India for spices. Otherwise, people would have done so well before he accomplished the feat in 1492. He didn't actually make it to the East, but he didn't fall off the edge of the Earth either.

en.wikipedia.org...

The geocentric model held sway into the early modern age; from the late 16th century onward it was gradually replaced by the heliocentric model of Copernicus, Galileo and Kepler.

One must ask, why must each theory be so separated from one another? Okay, so evolution could have happened. That is, natural selection, acting upon individuals in order for them to survive in a given environment. Once we do approach a significant theory involving how life came to be, it always comes back to, well, what caused that point of massive energy?
I am not sure why you believe these people 2,000 years ago were so unbelievably dumb that you cannot rely on your own species to proclaim truth. One point you make is how much time elapsed between when it was written down and when it happened. Well, consider this, back then, they didn't have computers to store information. They had word of mouth and excellent memories.

Huge statement .. care to explain why you think they had excellent memories.? To the point everyone remember the same things ? Now a days we cannot play the telephone game without "Jesse had a little house" turning into "Jesus liked a little mouse".

The U.S. isn't a Christian country? en.wikipedia.org...

Almost all of the presidents can be characterized as Christians, at least by formal membership. Some were Unitarian, or Quaker, or unaffiliated with a specific religious body. Some are thought to have been deists, or irreligious. No president thus far has been a Jew, a Buddhist, a Muslim, a Hindu, a Sikh or an adherent of any other specifically non-Christian religion.

I am sure Congress is the same. There is a reason why George W. Bush said, "God bless America," at the end of his speeches. There is a reason why on our currency it says, "In God we Trust."

And fizliz I agree, God could be at the very top of the chart. Do I believe it? No. Although, I have a feeling the deeper and deeper we dig into the universe the more we will have to uncover to explain and understand. If we just say, "God did it," we will never make another technological advancement or discovery.

In no means is the bible right how it explains creation, it isn't even close. So one must assume that there is no god because if the bible was actualy god's word he would be incorrect and that is something god is not. So god and the bible are just a fabric of human imagination. We have thought of better theories since then. Why can't we get over this one? Because it is so simple?

People 2,000 years ago probably could have had the same intelligence as us, but they did not have the resources or education we have. So they were not as educated as us and thus did not know as much as us. Some people could read and write but not as many people that can today.

If you go by word of mouth eventually words will change, then other words, and before long the entire meaning has changed.
