EDIT, Isn't there a law regarding war souvenirs?

I don't think I'm quite ready to buy into this one just yet. Both links refer to the same article so it really doesn't add to the credibility. The Time article has no sources. And finally, the article interviews no one who has actually seen it. Even if it is there, well it's got to be somewhere. I guess that's better than showing up on eBay.

I thought it was illegal to take souvenirs from the enemy. I suppose that doesn't apply to the commander in chief.

Woah. Yes there is. My Grandfather got in BIG trouble in WWII taking a flare gun off a Nazi.

US President George W Bush has been given a pistol Saddam Hussein had with him when he was captured and now proudly shows it to selected guests, Time magazine reported today.

I know you can't take anything off the war dead, so maybe it's just a moral issue (since we haven't executed Saddam yet) and not a geneva violation, but STILL...

Bad Cowboy, BAD...

I thought the Dentist video of Saddam was in poor taste, but this is really showing a smugness to the world America doesn't need right now.

To me, the only thing sadder than a little boy President that just doesn't "get it" is all the support he gets from some for acting that way... See: "I'm glad my President acts like an 8 year old" celebration thread

I don't know about the law, but in all WW2 accounts I've read the soldiers take many souvenirs. They even trade and sell them to officers. I thought it was just a part of war.

"I thought it was illegal to take souvenirs from the enemy."

i think this rule shouldnt apply for the president of the united states of america. (im not even being sarcastic).
it honestly wouldnt harm anybody. bush truelly believes in this war and has been successful in something he set out to do (remove saddam from power). I back the war and i think people who are against bush keeping saddams gun for a souvenir are simply nitpicking at bush because they dont like him. in my opinion, theyre being pretty childish

I agree entirely with GeniusSage.

"President" Bush is of the opinion that no rules or conventions apply to him, in fact sometimes he makes out he is on a mission from God, just like Osama Bin Laden and other nutters.

Therefore, the keeping of a deposed enemy's weapon is trivial in the whole war agenda. To rank it otherwise would be morally inconsistent.

As no rules need to apply to "president" Bush, he should keep Saddam's rootin' tootin' pistol wherever he wants.

Since when was it not a good idea to take a weapon off an enemy combatant, whether subdued or dead?
