Why all this fascination with 2012? I'm starting to think that some people are so bored with reality that they actually want our civilization to end.

I think the whole 2012 discussion is a total bummer.

And that's my opinion

It's funny because they are only taking into account the solar cycle, while there is a lunar cycle as well...which would make the actual date be around 2042.
But hey, who's counting?

I look forward to the end of an era, not the world...which is what I believe the calendar actually represents. However, with this comes natural disasters and such....so we shall see what happens, aye?

Just live life, really...any day could be '2012' for all we know. Life is short!

if a war starts between israel and iran/syria/lebanon in 2010 then expect things in 2012, not just normal things but big changes...

we got to wait and see, but my grandpa told me that disasters hit without warning... so earth can be peaceful for years and then it all goes down in a matter of minutes...

Exactly! Anyone of us could drop dead any minute. Why spend time speculating on the end of the world, to me that's a total waste of precious time and counterproductive.

That does'nt mean a thing.

What if the people who believe in 2012 MAKE the war a reality. Like the fundie christians who help out israel to bring the end of times faster.

Actually I would like to see homosapians live up to their potential but there seem's to be some hard wired conflicts in his nature.

No real perception of the big picture but enough knowledge to be dangerous not only to himself but to others. I think the appropriate analogy would be "a baby with a pistol"

It's just a matter of time till civilization ends and chaos, barbarism and anarchy rules the day; not because of some mystical event like 2012 but buy his own hand.

I wouldn`t really want our civilisation to end, but if it did happen, well, tough luck.

I do hope that there will be some sort of change around 2012, maybe enough people will be fed up with the way we live our lives that civilisation changes radically.

A cataclysm would also be cool, it would open a window of opportunities for many...

I like the way our civilization is. Drive fords, go to walgreens to buy food, play PlayStation. I don't really want it to change

vjr1113, that concept is definitely worth pondering. I believe that the only way in which civilization will ever be brought to an end would be by the actions of religious fanatics who hold high positions. The common class citizens, as a whole, may never evolve past the fiction of religion, but it is absolutely imperative that those in governing positions not be instilled by such dangerous fictional beliefs.

I've always considered myself a bit of a social outcast. A nerd, if you will. And I've always had a fascination with the breakdown and/or build-up of society. The two extremes, anarchy and tyranny. Dystopia and post-apocalypse. In a lot of ways I long for the collapse of society simply because I think we have reached a plateau where as a species we are not moving forward. Progress is not being made because people are clinging to outdated ideas. People are too busy fighting for their outdated ideologies and beliefs to see that unity is needed to move forward as a species. We no longer need to think of ourselves as nations, this world is getting too interconnected for the arbitrary borders we set up on maps.

So yeah I sort of long for the inevitable collapse. No civilization can last forever and if we don't start making some progress soon ours isn't going to last much longer.

I would love for our civilization to end. I have little faith in humanity, as the capitalist model has made greedy pigs out of just about everyone. Communism is no better, and there are few alternatives, besides anarchy that might even pan out to suit us for the best.

Humans have not learned to work to better themselves. Everything revolves around a foolish monetary system that has been pushed on us by a few of the world's elite since ancient human history. I'd love for the universe to hit the reset button.

Our civilization ending would not be the end of the world people. In fact it may start a new beginning. Hopefully one based on a more humanistic approach to doing things collectively that benefit us all.
