I looked at this a few years ago and found a number of sites relating to what is referred to as "The Incorruptibles". Fascinating really when you read how long they have been around for.

its funny what kind of flakey image people may give people who meditate, call them new agers, and they typically like to agree with each other, you'd even think its a religion. As for me personally I hate getting stuck with terminology and try to keep an open mind, as to let everything spill out it seems while retaining an objective opinion of what I observe.

I can't speak for everyone, but seeing how i've developed because of meditation, its kind of funny... but I bet an 80 year old woman who's had a life of meditation has more balls and discipline then a lot of people.

To remove your fears and insecurities, your limitations, and to find some sense of worth and then develop your capabilities. Seems like the ideal chemistry to live a more exciting life.

Well said...i think the simple truth is that MOST PEOPLE, can sadly go no longer than 3 mins in meditation. MOST PEOPLE can hardly muster up the strength to QUITE there mind, for more than a few seconds. Let alone for hours on end. lol
and as u said...to go as far as removing your fears/insecurities is a whole nother ball game

Sounds like some awesome meditation =]
(not joking lol)

ha, well you go write it up man, put it an audio file. Just make sure it sounds very straight to the point and make the person feel even a little embarassed. Thats my approach.
haha. So start the meditation, trying to empower people, it will really resonate with young guys who want some sense of power and then bust of the idea that an 80 year old woman is tougher and more capable then them and that will get them motivated!

Unless you mean the part about stuff spilling out of your head, i can dig that too.

so far out of all the worlds religions, the buddhist's seem to be the most evolved of the bunch.

they can change their body temperature at will,

light themselves on fire and show no signs of pain,

and we have this guy, who used his dead body as a reminder to the rest of us.

modern day miracles.

Do you have any proof of those claims above? Where the Buddhists light themselves on fire and feel no pain? How does one prove something like that?

The mind is capable of many things though, regardless of religion.

re the Wiki photo..... Thanks

next; the photo shows the attendants with latex gloves, and lots of 'salts' or something like the Egyptian substance )Naturm( ? or whatever they used in mummification.

my guess befor the pic was that the other monks HAD to disembowl him or else the normal bacteria & stomach acids & such would begin the process of decomposition.
I also wondered if the monk also began a regimin ti preserve his body before he passed away.
consider that he may have embarked on consuming, bathing in oils & aloes etc, did not consume or ingest foods for Months,
nor did he hydrate himself for Weeks
before his planned 'transition' (aka Death) into another state of being.

Proof ? I thought they were a pretty well known phenomenon.

I didn't say the monk never felt pain, that can't be proven obviously, .... I said the monk " showed no signs of pain" which is completely different.
