TEHRAN — President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad warned on Tuesday that world powers would regret any moves to slap new sanctions on Iran, while stressing that Tehran was still ready for a UN-brokered nuclear fuel deal.

His latest salvo came as US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton toured the Gulf to seek backing for possible sanctions against Iran for defiantly pursuing its nuclear programme.

"If anybody seeks to create problems for Iran, our response will not be like before," Ahmadinejad told a packed news conference in Tehran.

Even though I take everything Iran says with a grain of salt now, especially after their "Shocking slap and demise to the capitalist system" was a total and complete fizzle, what ever comes out of their mouths still needs to be listened to.

Iran president says that should any more sanctions be put on his country then they will respond to that with moves that will make western leaders "regret" those sanctions.

What could Iran do here? Cut off oil going through the straight? I don't believe they are referring to any kind of military response like an attack that would be suicide.

It seems that no matter what this issue heads for war. If I was a country enriching Uranium for peaceful purposes and had done everything requested by the IAEA and had a giant bully the USA and it's pesty partner Israel threatening war and sanctions I wouldn't sit idly by either.

I certainly agree, they do mouth off a whole lot of garbage. It still makes me wonder what the Iranians are REALLY capable of if push comes to shove.

Who knows, maybe when the U.S places their beloved sanctions on Iran, Iran will simply do nothing... Then again like I said, If I were being bullied about by the most corrupt nation on earth about my 100% completely legal uranium enrichment activities I would want to kick that nation right in the junk where it hurts to make them back off.

I don't think they are scared of Israel attacking or the US attacking. I think they have proven that by not backing down from their completely legal nuclear program in the face of threats and sanctions.

I'd be warning America to back off too if it wanted to sanction or bomb me for something I am completely entitled to do

Is Russia considered the "West"? I ask because they are pressing for sanctions as well.

And Iran has been complaining to anyone who will listen that Israel is going to attack them. Seems to me that if they are as big and bad and tough as they think they are then they shouldnt be complaing to anyone and be telling Israel to "bring it on"-which is exactly what they do say every other week. It depends on which way the diarrhea is flowing out of Akmanutjonbs mouth.

Do you really think that Iran is going to keep it's nuclear capacities to peaceful uses? I guess you won't be happy until they set off their first test to prove to everyone how great they are. You know that the islamic rule there wants to bring about the apocalypse?

just as an aside, North Korea went down this same path and they now believe they have some kind of leverage.

At least the NK's leadership isnt on a religious mission to bring about the apocolypse. Thats about the only thing i can say for them though. The Mullah's and all their talk about living in the age of the Mahdi and how they are going to bring back his return does not bode well if they have a bomb. THAT is the difference between them having the bomb and other countries having it.

Iran IS oppressive to it's people and their rethoric isn't the best.

That said, no country has the right to impose sanctions on Iran or any country.
