A quick google search yields that tuning to A=444Hz apparently aligns the musical spectrum to the universal harmony, in which the centre is 528Hz (coincidentally, or not, which is also the centre of the visible spectrum). In any case, this other info aside, A=444 is a possible tuning system, so maybe it really is a reference to a frequency.
