"is tech intelligence a convergent feature of evolution? The answer is a resounding no, its happened once in 2 billion years out of billions of
species nature just doesn't seem very interested in intelligence."
How do you know it happened only once here on earth? Estimates suggest that if a civilization like our own died, it would take about 50,000 years for
the earth to make almost all clues to it disappear. Life has been around for, again by estimates, about 3 1/2 billion years, give or take. A
civilization could have existed for a full billion years and still leave 2 1/2 billion years for all traces to be obliterated. Or there might have
been cycles of new civilizations, then they go poof, and eventually a new one comes along every hundred million years or so. Who knows? Maybe our
visitors are just here checking out the old homestead.
