it'd be an EU force which never leaves the EU.

If that would happen, I could perfectly live with the idea. Instead of an intervention force, I would rather see an European Defense force that would solely intervene in rare situation and under UN mandate. Realistically speaking, we know this would not fulfill the greed for power.

Economic supremacy does not combine well with its military equivalent. History has shown that repeatedly, but mankind is too ignorant to learn from its mistakes.
Once a country evolves from an economic powerhouse into a combination of that and a military super force, it automatically starts its downwards spiral, which can takes decades to become visible.

Greed for power grows out of control, the number of conflicts and wars increase and eventually this hunger for power starts affecting the economic and social stability, that's when decline sets in. The US finds itself in such a position. The Spanish, Dutch, French and British empires did, the Roman empire did and so on. Another parallel that can be found is the continuous attempts of others to overthrow the power of these ruling forces.

The following quote about the US perfectly applies to the EU, with the difference being that the EU is at an early stage stage while the US is nearing the end of the cycle:

Faber: The 'American Empire' has peaked, is on a decline
Once a society becomes successful it becomes arrogant, righteous, overconfident, corrupt, and decadent ... overspends ... costly wars ... wealth inequity and social tensions increase; and society enters a secular decline."

first time posting here so here goes.

this has been coming for ages,in the new global era each player has to be of a certain size and have certain resources to be able to compete.it seems logicical.i am not sure i agree with or want it,but maybe that has more to do with current relations.

i have worries about it,but it may also be the one thing that we can do that will enable all of europe to stand against other nations.

on our own europes individual countries will only ever get fed table scraps from any super powers.

It's not as if we don't have this already, NATO, UN, take your pick. We have it in everything but name.

It's just another nail in the coffin people, although I can see some opposition to this initially, it should be some way off yet!

All the best, KF

I have a feeling this is far from over yet. Timoshenko refuses to recongnize the result, and has already hinted that she is preparing for mass protests - in other words "Orange Revolution 2.0". She is just as crazy as Yuschenko, and twice as greedy. She and people like her are very dangerous for Ukraine, because she will stop at nothing to get what she wants - power at any cost, even if it means bloodshed.

The first thing Yanukovich should do as president is rid the country of thieves and crooks like her and Yuschenko, and all of their "orange" band of idiot demagogues. I am sure the US can take them all in - it is after all responsible for unleashing them on Ukraine. If she initiates another mess like last time, then Ukrainian politics will become a complete joke with not a slightest bit of legitimacy.

And just so everybody understands how this ties to the thread subject - the winner of the Ukrainian election Yanukovich is strongly against Ukraine joining NATO or any military alliance, yet he supports eventual membership in the EU. This means that although he supports Ukraine becoming part of EU economic entity, he wants Ukraine to remain neutral militarily. The sore loser Timoshenko on the other hand, has expressed interest in having Ukraine join NATO.

Germany is a natural ally of Russia . If they can forget the enmity of the past , so can a western europe only caught up in a pseudo cold war with Russia . It is a pragmatic and beneficial union . It may be time to cut the ties with the US . They are increasingly off at some obscure tangent with religion or abortions or some other bizarre US_centric issue that is mundane and wearisome to behold , they don't really have very much in common with most europeans anymore . They are more alien to us than Russia . Do we want a partnership based on trade , alliances, de militarized borders and benefits derived of common ground and mutual harmonious relationships . Or one based on enmity , confrontation, distrust, lies , propaganda , BS and pseudo religious clap trap from dumb evangelists about the eventuality of conflict, confrontation and armegeddon in perpetuality .

It's time to cut them loose , they are off on a different path to the rest of humanity . We stay with them , and we'll be dragged into the same orwellian fascist state they are heading towards.

We want to move forward . We don't want to get bogged down in all this negativity , this racism and xenophobia , hatred and discord . They are on an express train back to the middle ages . Do we want that for ourselves as well ?
