Whose UFO hypothesis do you favour?

After many years of interest in the UFO phenomena, I have found only three authors whose ideas truly 'ring a bell' as far as the enigma of Ufology is concerned.

There are a great may books that are purely research, of course, and where reports are accurate and verifiable, they have their uses. But investigating the field is fraught with peril, simply because it doesn't appear to present us with any constant reference points.

What I mean is that UFO's can appear in different ways, at different times, and in so many different guises. This is not speculative, this is fact, even if only a tenth of the material available can be believed.

Add to this the various types of 'alien' encountered over the years, and other, attendant aspects, such as men in black, cupachabra, bigfoot, mothman et al. It starts looking like we are a galactic drop in center.

All very odd - a seemingly eclectic mixture of observed and recorded ariel objects, and strange, mythical creatures. In fact there seems a very strong link between UFO's and cryptozoology.

I have read a great deal, I have a large-ish library of material dating back to some of the earliest 'flying saucers have landed!' type books from the 1950's. I've read Velikovsky and Von Daniken, Adamski and many others, but as I say, have only found three authors whose ideas stay with me, and still intrigue me.

They are the books of John Keel, particularly 'Operation Trojan Horse' and the 'Mothman prophecies.'

Also the books of Jacques Valee, especially 'Passport to Magonia'

Both excellent authors, well worth reading if you are not familiar with their work (or even if you are!)

Thirdly, by Ralph Noyes, 'A Secret Property'.

The last, Ralph Noyes, worked for the (UK) air ministry and the MOD until 1977, when he retired. His rank at that time was under secretary of state. He is said to have worked for the MOD saucer investigation service, and was a higher ranking predecessor of Nick Pope.
He wrote a 'novel' in 1982, closely following the events of the famous incident at an American airbase at Rendlesham, in Suffolk, England. His novel is a full length story and includes UFO appearances, holography, witchcraft, Experimental radar, remote viewing, parallel realities and dimension traveling 'bipedel, intelligent Saurians'

For me, personally, I believe this book is the closest and best insight into the whole phenomena that exists. In combination with the work of the other two authors it gave me a solid grounding in just what I think this subject is, and is not, about.

(Of course, it could all just be a huge, glorious nonsense!)

To try and reach a point, what I am interested in is who's explanation of the phenomena YOU favour. Which, if any, author has informed YOUR theory of the UFO?

I ask for selfish reasons - I am interested in knowing where to go next with my readings, so thanks in advance!

no doubt about it, one of the best books, is Richard Dolan's
"UFO's and the national security state."

I think anyone who reads that book would have to admit something is going on. It would be a good book for many of the skeptics on here.

Check it out, read it cover to cover. It only goes to like 1971 or something like that, the next volume is supposed to cover up to now, but he has so much information that he may end up cutting it into 2 more volumes. Either way it's taking him forever to finish the damn thing! I've been waiting a few years now for volume 2.

I found Jim Marrs' "Alien Agenda" to be a great informative read; it doesn't try to convince you of anything- only to point out hundreds of facts and strange anomalies from which you can draw your own conclusion.

For me, at least, the point behind UFO's is not that we are being visited by aliens, or that there are secret black-ops style governmental craft flying our skies; the point is that there is something going on behind the scenes that some people have put painstaking effort into trying to cover it up.

I tend towards Greer's philosophy regarding aliens, I think he's right in the assumption you have to act nice before you are allowed out too play in the universe.

Not exactly about UFOs... but Nietzche's Zaratustra is invaluable in oh so many factors in aprehending some of the interactions that lie beyond typical western logic... and with a little effort it can change your whole view about more "evolved" beings...

S & F to you friend! Good thread, I like reading what others think on the UFO topic.

I lean toward the KGB and it's efforts in Egypt. Finding the humanoid in the crypt of the Visitor. I have read where others claim this to be fraud but they cannot touch the film ands it's authenticity. They may say its fake in regards to the mission of the KGB but its kind of a mute point if they can't proof the tape isn't real.

I do like John Keel as his was an original view. I like Jaques Valle but the books are quite old.

Trevour James Constable is also quite interesting.

Hi Icerider, here is one that regarding the UFO/ET phenomenon truly 'ringed a big bell' for me and never stopped ringing.

When I started to read the information he brought forward in the threads which he posted on ATS and on his own site, has read more than once the two books I mentioned below, I realized that all that information looked in a way to me “ as a perfect fitting silk glove around a hand”, and that “hand” was in reality all the things I know of that phenomenon now.

Therefore I am convinced that the information that Lou Baldin alias ATS member “sleeper” has shared so far, is in fact the real deal.

But that is my personally opinion of course.

I think one of the best books I've read on the subject is 'Clear Intent' by Lawrence Fawcett and Barry Greenwood - they deal solely with government documents and make quite a compelling case for the reality of unexplained UFO incidents -especialy over nuclear installations.

The best book on the once-controversial but now widely recognized extent of secret government interest in UFOs. Working from a large quantity of FOIA'd declassified documents, the authors give an interesting "just the facts" style of presentation of the revealed information.

I also think the work of Carl Feindt and Dr Ivan Sanderson is important as many unknown objects have been reported entering and emerging from the world's oceans.

The almost forgotten gem of UFOlogy, originally published over 30 years ago, this brilliant book is now even better. Revised and upated with new illustrations and photographs, it also includes an extensive new forward by David Hatcher Childress. Sanderson reminds us of the hard yet oft-forgotten fact of UFOlogy, which is, most UFOs seem inextricably connected with water - They are very frequently seen entering and leaving water, moving through or above water, and otherwise interacting with water. Sanderson explores all the implications of this, leading him to postulate that most UFOs are actually USOs - Unidentified Submerged Objects, and their pilots, these other intelligences (OINTS), may have evolved alongside of humanity but under the sea.

Believe it or not, Star Trek. There are most likely many alien civilizations - good and bad - with some sort federation (for lack of a better word) that attempt to keep peace in our galaxy and neighboring ones.

Like First Contact, Earth is still fairly primitive and we won't become part of the galactic family until we meet certain criteria in terms of technology, our ability to take care of ourselves and possibly an ethical perspective (vibrational energy).

Since we are on the fringe of the Milky Way, our solar system is a way-stop for ships entering and exiting. Some often stop by, either to site see or prank / delight us. However a policy might exist prohibiting or restricting global contact. Some scout us especially after atomic testing. The greys have a medical or scientific interest in us.

The pyramids were built as markers, similar to our American flag planted on the moon, by an extraterrestrial civilization for practical purposes. It needed to stand the test of time and credit those who commissioned the work (a group from orion's belt).

In terms of American Military UFOlogy, The Day after Roswell summed up the phenomena post 1947, although I think many things are embellished or speculated to create a cohesive story.

Pre-1947 - Gods of Eden is a messy read, but takes a literal perspective on religious inspirations and heavenly communications as originating from crafty aliens.

All theories, but still fun to think about!

Jim Marrs "Alien Agenda" (1997) is fantastic, as is Donald Keyhoe "Aliens From Space" (1973)

If I was going to introduce someone to the concept of Alien Visitation, I would start with Keyhoe, NICAP, and all the old radar reports and government documents. Marrs would be next, followed by Budd Hopkins, and then Whitley Streiber's "Communion".

If all that isn't enough to convince you that something serious is going on, then you're probably never going to believe - even if you see one.
