Nice police model shotguns too.

IRS Acquiring Shotguns

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) intends to purchase sixty Remington Model 870 Police RAMAC #24587 12 gauge pump-action shotguns for the Criminal Investigation Division. The Remington parkerized shotguns, with fourteen inch barrel, modified choke, Wilson Combat Ghost Ring rear sight and XS4 Contour Bead front sight, Knoxx Reduced Recoil Adjustable Stock, and Speedfeed ribbed black forend, are designated as the only shotguns authorized for IRS duty based on compatibility with IRS existing shotgun inventory, certified armorer and combat training and protocol, maintenance, and parts.

Submit quotes including 11% Firearms and Ammunition Excise Tax (FAET) and shipping to Washington DC.

So the IRS wants shotguns?!

I guess we'd better make sure to double check our tax returns before sending them in this year!!

The IRS has it's own little SWAT team of troopers. Always has.

I dont know why people associate them with pencil pushing poindexters. They are no different than the FBI or ATF when it comes to kicking in your door and shooting your dog to collect.

From the IRS Investigators training guide:

Instruction is provided in the hard skill areas of defensive tactics, building entry, armed escort, and additional firearms training. The defensive tactics training introduces the trainee to CI's use of force procedures and consists of classroom instruction and physical training in weaponless defensive techniques. Building entry and armed escort training have similar formats. The firearms training includes range time and simulations.

Hummm, so does this mean that anyone can go buy these guns? The reason I say this, is because the IRS is nothing more then a branch of the Federal Reserve. They are not even a government office, just a private company.

So what? IRS has had armed agents for years. At least they aren't buying APCs or machine guns.

i read its for the criminal division, but guns? for an irs money problem? for a group with debatable legality?

I was in the same boat - that's why I made the OP.

But apparently they do have their own little force. I'd have thought they would have just gotten cops, the FBI, or something like that to provide the muscle if they ever needed it.

Why would the governing entity spread one armed force out when they can just make everyone in their employ a member of the armed force?

If you made it your mission in life to steal from good people would you not want some guns for your protection?

Besides, if a revolution ever breaks out in the US, the IRS will be a definite target for pretty much the same reason the guy cracking the whip on the rowers was a target objective...payback.

I thought this was hysterical:

9.2.1.9 (03-22-2005)
Firearms Training and Qualification

Obvious. Goes into handgun, rifle and shotgun training and becoming a certified sharpshooter.

9.2.1.10 (03-31-2004)
Defensive Tactics Training

Naturally, you just got done becoming proficient in the use of small arms. Tactics would be the next step.

The next section of the manual?

9.2.1.11 (03-31-2004)
Certified Public Accountant/Attorney Professional Certifications

Makes perfect sense to me.

Lean to shoot, learn to kick in the door, then file their tax return.

If that is the case, who owns the IRS, who started the IRS, and do they have plans to go public?

Big deal! Should match up rather nicely against my Mossberg 590A-mil edition 12 guage with 18 in. parkerized barrel with heat shield and 9 round mag capacity - complete with Knoxx stock and Hogue forend. The EXACT same shotty issued to the US Marines!

Of course they need guns - that is how and illigitimate retains its power over the people - by being better armed. Notice that they are NOT better armed than I am.

Geez people, weren't any of you paying attention in civics class?

The IRS is often called upon to sieze the illegally acquired assets of some very dangerous people; people like drug trafficers, loan sharks, mobsters, and pedophile ring-masters.

These folks typically do not take it well when the "revenuers", followed by the police, come to break up their illicit operations. And they are often armed, and willing to use those weapons to retain their ill-gotten booty.

So yes, IRS investigators Need to be well armed.

Armed to the teeth in fact;

Because it seems that our society has become so morally a**-backwards that its citizens hold the greed of the perverts that prey upon it in higher regard than the safety and welfare of thier own family and friends!

Which is exactly why I distrust and fear the IRS.

They are much better armed due to having many agents and a huge power behind them.

The IRS opted for the Rem 870 Police Magnums, when they could have had the more reliable and combat-ready Rem 870 Marine Magnums.

The difference between the two models is that the Marine Magnums are manufactured with all-metal parts, whereas the Police Magnum contains some plastic operating parts that are prone to accelerated wear.

Additionally, the Marine Magnum has a high-tension trigger (making it harder to accidentally fire) as well as a high-tension magazine spring. Frankly, if I was going to buy a pump shotgun for a combat situation, I'd rather have the Rem 870 Marine Magnum.

Oh, wait... I DO have one.

God how easy it would be to kill a group of agents raiding my home unlawfully...

Setup a tripwire at all entrances where an acidwash or bleach/styrofoam mix to dump on suspects as they make entry, then light on fire... create explosives at all doorways...or just get an AK, or any automatic, and just lie prone at an entrance and wait.

It's in our future...don't pay your tax, you are subject to imprisonment or death! Oh wait, that already is the case.

Actually, they're not better armed than the American citizens. The American public owns nearly 300 million firearms and a virtually bottomless supply of ammunition, which is more than all branches of the U.S. government and military combined.

Actually, the American public arsenal far surpasses the firearms stockpiles of most nations on Earth. In addition, the number of retired military personnel in the American public sector far outnumbers the active duty personnel in the U.S. military. So, the American public has more guns and more experienced personnel to use them.

While I distrust the IRS — as I distrust all agencies of the U.S. government — I do not fear them.

I know, through dealings with the IRS for many decades, that this agency is so bureaucratically screwed-up that their left hand doesn't know what their right hand is doing. This goes for ALL agencies and departments of the U.S. government.

If you want to hogtie the IRS for six months or more, you simply throw paperwork at it. So, save your bullets and use paper.

no they dont really need to be armed, thats what the police are for

if they need to "raid" someone they could easily coordinate it with the police who are trained in these situations much more then the irs
