Iraq inquiry: Short says cabinet misled on war legality

news.bbc.co.uk

Tony Blair's cabinet was "misled" into thinking the war with Iraq was legal, ex-International Development Secretary Clare Short has told the UK's inquiry.
She said Attorney General Lord Goldsmith had been "leaned on" to change his advice before the invasion.
Mr Blair "and his mates" decided war was necessary, and "everything was done on a wing and a prayer", Ms Short said.
She quit the cabinet two months after the March 2003 invasion, in protest at planning for the war's aftermath.

very interesting if its true, and could possibly have severe consequences for tony blair in light of recent trial. i wonder what impact this will have? she basically goes on to say that any evidence they did have for the war was "historically inaccurate", and says that al-qaeda have nothing to do with iraq. if this is true one must wonder what other motives we had to go to war... not that it takes much thought.

This, in my mind, is a real hammer blow to those who are in the front seats in this war on terror.

Short seems to be very clear and precise on what she has to say and is making sure she is heard this time.

in late, 2002 she added: "We asked for a briefing... This just didn't come and didn't come... it became clear there was some sort of block on communications."

We, here, are fully aware of the sort of 'blocks' that can be made and we are also aware of the sort of errors that are made in the handling and release of information (BBC reporting on WTC 7 having collapsed before it actually had).
We know that news and info is manipulated behind the scenes in order to obtain an objective.

Such a shame that so many innocent have had to die by the hands of liars, con artists, tricksters and gamblers....and, unfortunately, by the hands of soldiers 'following orders'. Orders that have come from the very same tricksters and swindlers that we have in power.

Ms Short told the inquiry Mr Blair's evidence was "historically inaccurate", adding: "There was no evidence of any kind of an escalation of threats."

Which we all are aware of now... back then we could only take their word for it.. a word that has obviously been blown so far out of proportion that it takes all this time for the rest of the public to begin to find out about it.

Millions who protested around the world against the war were obviously awake, yet there voice and presence was beamed onto our tv sets as if they were in the wrong.

The game of cat and mouse must be running rampant throughout the purple carpeted corridoors of Whitehall and the booze soaked rooms of the houses of parliament right now. Each out to cut the others throat in order to save their precious hides and names.

Find those responsible for these war crimes, crimes against humanity.. Follow up with the attack on Blair by the Red cross.. label him the war criminal he really is..

Nail them up... hanging is too good for them.

good post... i am just really interested to see how this will effect the rest of the enquiry... evidence like this should not be ignored. in my eyes this should have been a major headline but it was barely mentioned on the news last night. very strange.

its not like i had alot of faith in this country to begin with, but the outcome of this trial will be a real indicator of corruption deep in our political system.

i can see this all getting brushed over and the whole war deemed legitimate. though from what we can gather from Short this clearly is not the case.
