I did a quick search and found nothing asbout this on ATS except for an all too brief mention in another thread.

If i missed something and this is already being discussed, please delete, or whatever normally happens.....

The hit squad that killed a top Hamas commander in a hotel room in Dubai injected him with a drug that induced a heart attack, The Sunday Times reported on Sunday.

Source: gulfnews.com...

This happened on 20th January, but it seems there was a news blackout for several days while investigations were ongoing, and blood tests were being carried out in France to establish a cause of death.

In typical fashion for here in UAE, nothing is clear - it started out he was poisoned, then electrocuted to the head and poisoned, then suoffoctaed with a pillow, after being injected with a drug, and now the latest is that he was given a drug which caused a heart attack.

The suspected assassins apparently followed him from Damascus to Dubai on an Emirates flight, and fled the country shortly after the murder, on Europen Passports/ Local law enfiorcement say they have good evidence that points to those responsible (although nothing concrete out in the media yet). The Hamas guy was travelling without bodyguards - they were due to join him the next day (very convenient....)

Interesting that this should happen now, just as the US reveals it is strengthening it's missile defence systems in the Middle East, and the UAE is named as one of the probable host countries. The UAE is an Ally of the US in the Middle East, and they don't have the best relationship with Iran.

What is more interesting is the Mossad should be operating here, as Israelis, and all things Israeli, are not welciome in the least in this country, and the UAE has close ties with Palestine (here in Dubai we had our New Year's Eve celebrations cancelled in 2008/9 because of the situation in Gaza).

Also, last year, a Chechen rebel commander was assassinated in an underground car park in Jumeirah Beach Residence, allegedly by the Russians.

It would seem that if you want to assassinate someone, wait until they come to Dubai.......

[edit on 31-1-2010 by BlueOrb] - I changed the title from "Hamas Leader" to "Commader"...just to avoid confusion. The "Leader" is more than likely still alive.......

Latest developments - The police in UAE are claiming to know the identities of the gang of 7 men involved in the assassination of Al Mabhouh, and will be revealing it shortly, along with the identity of the "parties" involved.

This should be interesting..........

"According to reports", Al Mabhouh was passing through Dubai (as many people do), on his way to IRAN.

So all this is happening at a time when the US are talking tough with Iran, Tony Blair goes out of his way to mention Iran countless times when giving evidence in the Iraq inquiry, and the US is beefing up protection for its friend states in the Gulf region.

And the alledged assassins are travelling on European passports....I hardly think they are travelling with genuine documents, but it will be interesting to see if the police publish photos (Passports are generally scanned on arrival at the airport - and most European countries qualify for a "Visa on Arrival" in Dubai, making visiting easy, should you want to nip over and top a palestinian terrorist........

This is good - one less terrorist to contend with in the world.

I know I know - there will be plenty of people stopping by saying "ehhhh - he's not a terrorist - he is misunderstood."

Thats all well and good from your standpoint - from standpoint - TERRORIST!!!

I won't change your standpoint right? Then don't try to change mine.

Now, if only we could get the entire damned hamas "government" ( I use that term VERY lightly ) to take a little roadtrip!!!!

Well I guess Mossad is working overtime these days huh?

Perhaps the CIA as well..

Hmm, interesting it took this long for the story to surface, but then again it did happen in Dubai.

I think there was a news blackout for about a week, while blood tests were being done in France to establish the cause of death.

In typical UAE fashion, it;s not exactly clear what happened - you can see from the Gulf News website the story changes on a daily basis, as to the cause of death, but then again this is probably a result of the local police drip feeding the press with bits of information here and there. They were initially blaming Mossad, but now they are talking about "parties" involved. Certainly could be a CIA/Mossad joint venture.

It's also mentioned in the news that Al Mabhouh was an arms trader for Hamas - this, for me, makes the possible visit to Iran interesting - I wonder if the US will claim a Terrorist - Iran - Weapons link to bolster their case against Iran that they are currently building?
