I just bought a telescope last week, it's easier than I imagined to get good shots of the moon.

I have a 130mm scope, here's two pics I took using a 10mm eyepiece and my 5 megapixel mobile phone held up to the sight

If I can take photos like this with a mobile, then imagine what you can do with a proper camera and adapter.

To be quite honest, your pictures anger me.

Not angry with you, however. WTF is NASA doing??? I mean HONESTLY?? A friggin mobile phone, and a telescope?

They may just be running the same setup as you!

Very cool! just wondering how good it would be if we can get some close up shots of the lunar landing sites. what would the chances of getting close up shots of the surface? and could this lead to new ways of viewing further for less

Yeah I understand what you mean.

If I can capture images like this on a budget of £200/$320 then nasa should be releasing crystal clear ones without pixel distortion considering they have a few billion to spend!

Broonies pictures are great.
Great results using limited tools!

...but I don't understand your comment, jephersOn. NASA has hundreds of publicly available pictures of the moon that are much better than this, such as the one posted by chadwickus, the ones in the online Apollo archives, and the ones on the LRO camera (LROC) website:

LROC Image Browser

There are plenty of hi-res super-sharp images on that website such as this that I cropped. Some of the smaller boulders in this image are only a few meters across (the resolution of the original image is less than 1 meter per pixel):

or this one of rocks on the edge of a crater (the crater is only partially visible and is the black shadow in the bottom right corner). Again, the smallest rocks in this image are only a few meters across:

Same here, I to would like to see some beautiful color photos of the lunar surface instead of all the black and white ones we are always shown..Also, those are some really nice photos that guy has taken..nice find

I want to know about those grid lines that runaround the moon like marks of slices of an orange.
They seem to be central to that one crater.

I have a camcorder with digital zoom that cost like $100 that shows the moon as well as OP's video if I mess with the settings. Seems a bit of a useless thread since anybody can poke a camera or telescope up there and view the moon fairly well.

The colors in that image have been super-saturated.

Those colors really do exist, but in reality they are so subtle as to be virtually invisible to the eye.

Yep folks with under a $1000 can get better images of the moon than most of the stuff Nasa releases.
Their lack of interest in the moon is reminiscent of the lack of interest the Military shows over the subject of UFO's.
And what is with reinventing the moon program.
Didnt we spend billions and years perfecting moon shots in the 60's and 70's?
So why does it take Nasa 20 years too gear up for another very similar moon program.
Seems we the people only know a fraction of what Nasa and the Military are up too and every passing day of silence and denial adds too the theory that we know nearly nothing of what really is going on around us.

P.S. No cats are visible in this image.

Aristarchus truly is a beautiful blue this time of year

Not really.

$1000 dollars worth of equipment won't give you anywhere near the resolution of NASA's LRO images, some of which are better than 1 pixel = 1 meter (sometimes 1 pixel = 50 to 60 centimeters), and are available here:

The plan for the Constellation Program was NOT similar to the Apollo Program.

The plan for the Contsellation Program was to have astronauts live on the Moon for 2 weeks at a time, and eventually build "permanent" (i.e., long-term) Moon-base habitats that would eventually become stepping stone to long-term Mars habitats -- which would be necessary for a manned mission to Mars that is expected to require a 9-month stay on the planet.

The heavy-lift vehicle required for this was to have much more lift capacity than the old Saturn V.

If Constellation had the HUGE budget that Apollo had, they would have probably been able to accomplish their Moon plans in less than 10 years time.

I think video work is just as awesome as your taste in music. its quite diverse and provides such a mood especially in Night and Day. Sadly this isn't a music site and most people are interested in your video work of space. Just wanted to give you the kudos for the music. At least one person appreciates it.

I thank you for the videos you have produced and shared with us and on youtube. They are amazing, interesting does not describe what they evoke.

I can only imagine how it must feel to stare live at the moon through such equipment, must be and awe inspiring thing to do.

On another note: am I the only one seeing things that seem to be floating above the moon's surface? In all the shots near the edge of the dark side it appears there are many objects floating above the surface.

Not sure if Jose Escamilla's work has been shown on ATS or not, but he does a pretty good job of splashing the Moon with some color. As far as his theories in the clips, well that's for you to decide.
