Quote from source:
This great new video (just uploaded today!) does a great job of explaining the upcoming Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) mission, which is slated to launch on Feb. 9, 2010. SDO will provide a new eye on the sun that will deliver solar images with 10 times better resolution than high-definition television. This mission will zoom in on the cause of severe space weather—solar activity such as sunspots, solar flares, and coronal mass ejections. It will give us the best look ever at our Sun.

Can't wait to see what this baby send back for us. In order for us to understand other stars I think it is good that we understand the one that is closest to us and supports our life. The more we know about ours the more we know about similar chemical composition stars.

I thought this video was awesome and I am highly anticipating this launch!!

Any thoughts?

Around 2:00, he mentioned mountains and valleys on the sun. Was he being literal? If so, that's news to me. I always thought that the sun was essentially a big ball of plasma or hot gases
Great thread, OP.

I don't think he means it literally, I think he means like a bulge and a divot. If the sun had mountains they would be the size of Jupiter.
I think he means bulges.
