UFO sighting puzzles N.L. residents

www.cbc.ca

Residents in Harbour Mille, a tiny community on Newfoundland's south coast, want to know what they saw in the sky Monday night.

Darlene Stewart said she was outside taking pictures of the sunset when she saw something fly overhead.

She snapped a picture of the object in an attempt to zoom in on it to see what it was.

"Even with the camera, I couldn't make it out until I put it on the computer," she told CBC News. "I knew then it wasn't an airplane. It was something different."

An RCMP officer was in the community Tuesday to investigate the reports.

Pardy said she'd like to know what the object was.

"It's kind of scary because you don't know if something is being set off out in the bay, [or] if someone is doing experiments," she said.

The residents plan to be outdoors again Tuesday evening to see if there is a similar sight in the sky.

From the picture in the article I'd say that is not a TLAM or Tomahawk Land Attack Missile. It's an air breathing cruise missile that uses a rocket booster to exit it's launch vehicle. I got to see 21 of these fired with 2 failing to transition to cruise, plus missiles from multiple other surface and subsurface units. It looks more like an ICBM than a Tomahawk.

Actually, as posted here it looks a lot like the contrail of an airliner.

The object in front of the exhaust/contrail does not look like a plane at all. It has no wings and the bottom shape is more akin to a missile, plus it appears to only have 1 engine or exhaust.

ive checked local airports in case its a planeand nope not close enough for that type of pic.
hell i lived 14miles away from an airport and when they take off theres no fuel and they wobble scarily sometimes too like they gonna crash and i think ahhhhh

if you invert the colors you get a better pic

A missile?!
No way. There is no way the woman sees a missile fly overhead and then has enough time to take a zoomed in picture of it afterwards with any hope of it coming out so clear.

If so, Obi Wan needs to contact her. Her Metaclorian count is off the charts.
(or however you spell that.)

You see an object in that terrible image? When I zoom in all I see is compression artifacts. I think the plane is too high to see with the naked eye and the quality camera used. All we can see is the contrail.

How about in the first image in my post? See anything there? Wonder Woman's invisible jet? Or two missiles flying side by side?

The Canada image looks like a twin engine job to me.

Planes taking off and landing do not create contrails. Planes at high altitudes do.

Newfoundland gets a lot of high altitude overflights of planes to and from Europe.

You're right once again Phage, the other times I looked at it I mistook a section of the contrail for a shape. Taking another look from the picture you posted from the other thread and looking at the one from this thread I see what you mean.

Phage has this one right, me thinks.

Look at it here...

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/8a3936e343e8.jpg[/atsimg]

Note that the "upper half" of the "craft" is the same color as the exhaust and swirls just like the exhaust.

The darker lower-half is the other jet's exhaust.

What you are seeing here is two exhaust trails forming a single contrail, from the perspective of the camera.

Missile my ass.

Yes he does I stupidly thought the first 1/4 inch was a fuselage of some sort.

Heh, everyone knows that the UFOs don't leave contrails.
At least not since 1950, or therabouts.

It was a pretty easy mistake to make, though. I mean, with such a crappy picture, it sorta' does look like an object, at first glance.

Edit - Nevermind, you were the one saying it was a missile.
Sorry.
