Author Martin Amis calls for euthanasia booths in UK’s street corners to prevent a ’silver tsunami’

Euthanasia ‘booths’ should be established on street corners for pensioners to end their lives with ‘a martini and a medal’, novelist Martin Amis said yesterday.

Britain is facing a demographic time-bomb as its aging population places an impossible burden on society, the controversial writer claimed.

‘There’ll be a population of demented very old people, like an invasion of terrible immigrants, stinking out the restaurants and cafes and shops.

The article, jam packed with tremendously debatable material allows a life advocate to respond and (later) to say:

‘How on earth can people describe themselves as civilized when they’re advocating this style of euthanasia for the elderly and disabled? It’s completely repugnant.’

The point/counter of the Author being:

‘There should be a way out for rational people who’ve decided they’re in the negative.

This readers opinion?

It's hard for me to believe the world has come so far (or regressed so far) someone like this would even be taken seriously.

On the other hand, there is a need for easier availability for those who wish to bow out gracefully.

This dilemma I'll leave in your hands to figure out...

I couldn't even imagine what these *booths* would look like, so, I improvised and made one myself...

peace

Well the methods in this case seem a bit much, however, I have to agree on a small scale.

Not that they should have these booths with martinis and a medal but there should certainly be an avenue for folks to use if they wish to end their lives.

Who are we to say that something like that is wrong? Or tell a person that they can't choose to end their own lives, to me that is the most "personal" right that anybody has.

I concur. I also agree that if someone chooses to take their own life, so be it, just don't leave a mess.

That reminds me of the television show Futurama. They had suicide booths on the street corner just like telephone booths.

What a wonderful idea, don't you think.

As a matter of fact I will take this one step further.

My friend and I are walking down the streets of the quaint little British hamlet of Edinfuronthebackside, and I think, "The world would be a better place without old Dabney here"

So, without thought or time to the consequences at hand, I tell Dabney to have a look into the "booth"

I tell him there are neked wee-men in there.

Dabney being Dabney, he takes a peek or two and then......

I PUSH HIM IN THE BOOTH!

Is it murder if its a euthanasia booth?

Sounds fabulous. "Don't worry grandpa, I won't drive off till I see you've managed to put the money in the slot and pushed the 'gas' button."

Ahh, that's the question... Who's doing the pushing...

Lovely way of bringing that about...

Thanks

Amis has always been lacking in the Grand Scheme...no truly big ideas.

Euthanasia volunteers could sign up for a TV show directed by Simon Cowell and combining an international lottery. Fitted with tags and visor-cams, they could be released to roam the streets. For each 'capture' members of the public could progress through the levels to claim a big win and the chance of a record deal.

Naturally, all captures would get their wish of a quick and painless dispatch. It'd be good for the economy and anyone could take part.
