It's like John Stossel said... If you want to save an endangered species, put them on the menu, you'll never see chickens or cows becoming extinct.

Do you really want humanity to be the only race of creatures that survive a planetary holocost? Whats the point? Only a species of limited but some intelligence knows we are only whole when we reallize we are not Gods gift to the universe. We are but one step on a very long staircase that leads to a future far beyond our current understanding. The building blocks to that staircase are today the creatures all around us. But sadly, that will all ways not be so. If we don't reject our arrogance, given the current state of affairs, we won't be around much longer.

I would kill every human other than those who are useful if it meant I could bring back even one of the animal species we destroyed.

There is no sense in us bringing any animal species to extinction. It is not OUR job to hold down the populations of these animals. It is nature's, and it does a damn good job of it without our help.

The human population is too large and we have expanded too much. Our "needs" have begun to consume the worlds of which these animals depend on to survive. Life and nature work in balances. When that balance is thrown off, the force which threw it off must go. That slates us firmly as the next major extinction.

I don't know who besides ourselves gave us the right to "play God", but doing so is completely out of line with our role on this planet and I am thoroughly pleased to say that we will pay dearly for it.

A shame to think that humanity caused all these species to become extinct. Like has been said before, humanity does seem to have certain characteristics of a "virus". Hopefully we can become more aware of our detrimental ecological impacts.

We are aware of it, we simply do not care, as his been displayed by some in this thread.

We seem to think we are the center of the Universe. We think we are the only important life form out there. We think nature prefers us and has established these privileges for us to succeed.

I've got news for all of you: nature doesn't care about us. We are just another life form in a long history of life that has extended way before we appeared and will extend way after we are gone.

We are not as special as we think. When nature feels we have served our purpose, we will be thrown away like a pile of garbage - which is exactly how we treat these "inferior" animal species. Crudely ironic, don't you think?

Good thread December Rain, I'm enjoying reading these accounts I wasn't aware of, nor read about.

Keep making people aware of how horrible some of these animals were treated by the human race!

Just as I said in your other thread, habitats being removed is a big problem especially in my area for deer. It's sad to see them being hunted so much easier now since you can spot on running around across the street, and even sometimes within my neighborhood. Too many car accidents, too much hunting etc. are the cause of these problems.

I've even spotted some very rare types of deer, some that I have personally witnessed (from less than half a mile from my home) were white, albino type deers. Some with spots on them, some with none. I haven't seen them for years now though, for all I know they aren't around in my area anymore because of the lack of forests which have been removed for housing development, large companies & parking lots etc... It's really very sad.

I hope more is done to help stop the removal of these animals from their natural habitats because if something isn't done many deer, if not all (and other species that live around them) may just disappear within our generation. I definitely have noticed a decline in how many used to be around - I'm talking about how large the packs were, from 10+ now down to maybe 3 at a time if I spot them (which like I said has become more rare in the past 5-10 years.

Raise awareness everyone! We can't keep doing this to the animals we know and love just because they make some good jerky! Go by some beef jerky from the store no need to kill deer!

S&F.

Its fascinating to think these may be creatures that will never be seen again. And people wonder why I think stupid 'paranormal' shows are fake. You get one chance in a lifetime to see some ghost/monster/alien and you *run away from it* a la Destination Truth? My ass.

If you're out REALLY out there for the sake of proving something exists scientifically, you wouldnt miss the chance!

Seeing something no one may ever see again must be so satisfying... but disappointing you cant share the feeling

make it 10 animals.

I hate to be a kill joy December_Rain, but here in Tasmania there are a lot of us who believe the Tasmanian Tiger to be still around, having seen or heard them.

I have spoken to too many people that have seen them here, to believe otherwise. people of all ages and backgrounds with no grounds to be lying.

The majority don't hear about it because people are usually to scared to go public and be branded crazy's because apparently they are extinct.

It is interesting to note though that The Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife have them on the endangered list...not extinct!

That is why I despise the human race sometimes.

Sickening.

S&F for you my friend.

I am far from being a bleeding heart, but I do despair at the number of species we have wiped off the face of the planet.

The worst part is that today we know better, but still species are becoming extinct through human activity.

I've kept pets all my life of all kinds (rats, hamsters, geckos, snakes, cats, dogs etc etc) and to think of anything happening to such common animals is bad enough, but people purposely wiping out fragile species,,,

It's sickening.

People just don't understand the importance of animals and plants, everyday animal are effected because of us, whether it be a squirrel in a tree or an ant under our feet. I am praying for the day that humans and fish can coexist

sometimes I am so ashamed of being a hu-man being.

If i find out that the afterlife was really 'heaven' and is amazing i would regret bringing a child into life on Earth, why risk your child grow into a life of possible depression.

I think humans are out of place on this planet, we exploit the enviroment and what not!
I believe in other people's believe's of humans being placed on Earth some time in the past from elsewhere because of the intelligence difference. I can't provide 100% evidence but nor can you
.

Another thing, is how member's on ATS were brought up, their parents probably didn't give a crap about nature and would go hunting or chop tree's down, which rubbed off on them as a child. These kids would of most likely grown up to not really care about their enviroment.

If we all had the same bring up's there would be hardly any arguments on this topic and the alike.

Nice pics... CUTE BUNNY! lol But yeah, more and more species will continue dying out if we continue to selfishly destroy natural habitats...

It is a shame, but it's to be expected when living on a creation that has been cursed. 4000 human children are murdered legally every day in America. This means nothing to most of you (except if you're angry because you might lose your 'right' to kill your child), but if I said, "Humans are killing 4000 baby seals a year for fur", you are ashamed to be a human. Honestly, do I even need to add a sarcastic comment, or an admonishment on the hypocrisy???

Could you step down off your high horse for a minute and tell me where I said that in that situation we shouldnt save the animals?

I just think its an interesting question due to the implications relocating animals to another planet would have. i.e. we would have to create the exact right conditions somewhere else so these animals would survive, whilst also ffacing the possibility of eradicating life somewhere else so we could create these conditions.
Sure, we have a responsibility to try and keep the balance & whatnot, but where does that responsibility end?

Nice thread, but very sad that these animals no longer exist.
Makes me sick really.

I like the look of the Quagga though, i hadn't seen that one before.

I may have to start taking some pictures when i go to the zoo, no doubt a lot more will go by the time i have grandchildren.
