I believe that we all want representatives and heroes to be like us in some respect.
In this case, it's a rather small demographic (I think).

I'm OUTRAGED that there are no long-haired, heterosexual, left handed musician computer geeks in government.

I'd complain but I can't find anyone who cares.

Divide up these qualities and they're all covered in this government.

There are many with long hair.
Most are heterosexual.
The president is left-handed.
I'm sure some play a musical instrument.
The computer geeks are too many to mention.

Just because someone identifies themselves as a gender, when clearly they are the opposite, does not make them what they claim.

He is male. He is a man masquerading as a woman. It is a shame he feels the need to pretend and gets praised for it.

Yes - how courageous of this man to publicly deny who he really is and lie to all the people who may listen to him.

I guess he will fit in with all the other politicians.

Read, learn, seek enlightenment. The world is not as simple as you think, and gender is not black and white. Everybody will be better off...yourself included.
Peace

HEY - the bulletin I got said it was Yorkies!

Or poodles, but in either case, there are ribbons and toenail polish involved.

all that matters is whether or not she is the most able out of the applicants, to do the job. it's telling that it's religious factions opposing the appointments. freaking bigots!

we (new zealand), had the first transsexual member of parliament in the world, 1999 - 2007. from all accounts she did a fine job for her constituents, is a good person and well liked and respected among her peers and associates.

Well if that is what he chose to do to his body i think that is his right. I still think the whole "I WAS BORN THIS WAY!" argument is BS. But still i don't see why they should be treated different from any other human.

exactly!
it's no different than getting breast enlargements or having any type of plastic surgery that corrects any "perceived" flaws.

If anything is black and white in this world it is gender. There is male and there is female. That is simple, direct, and easy to understand. Any psychological "issues" pertaining to the matter do not take away from the very simple fact that a man is a man abd a woman is a woman. Falsely claiming anything else is a mental disorder.

If I walk around on "all fours", biting mailmen, peeing on fire hydrants and humping my neighbors leg, claiming the whole time I'm a dog when clearly I'm human, it would be apparent I have a mental disorder.

It's the same thing.

Can you cite your sources please?

I mean, you wouldn't just be handing me your opinion and telling me that's fact, now would you?

Um....you couldn't be more wrong in this case. Recently, scientific reports are emerging that support these theories, linking transsexualism to biological conditions that occur during the “hormone spray,” in the womb. In 1995 Dutch researchers discovered that a structural difference existed within the brains of men and (M>F) transsexuals. A small cluster of cells in the brain -- the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (BST) – is smaller in transsexuals (as it is in women) than in men.

Most recently researchers announced links between certain genes and sexual orientation, which it says is also hard wired into the brain. Perhaps with the advances of medical sciences, we will come to know for sure the reason for our actions. So in the future when people say, “How come you are transgender, we can say guilt free, “Because I was just born that way.”

Right, I need to be one of those people that puts "IMHO" in front of every statement. Clearly you have no rebuttal that makes sense or you would counter what I say, not nitpick the way I say it.

Researchers? Are these the same researches that say give our children pills to help them focus? Maybe it's the ones that go back and forth on the affects of cell phone radiation. We don't trust the government, but scientists and their studies and theories are completely trustable and unbiased.

I find it hard to believe a transvestite is the best canidate. Obama has been getting tons of flack from the gay community on his lack of upheld promises. What better way to muffle them than appointing a man dressed as a woman.

Like I said - he'll fit in just fine with all the other liars and scandals.

Your statement...I'm calling you to back it up.

If it is simply opinion, it behooves you to say so, yes.

A few of you said: "I don't care what he/she does as long as the job gets done". Well if you can't decide if you want to be a male or female, can't figure out that having a penis between your legs defaults you to being a male, how the hell are you going to lead and make decisions that WILL effect not just it, but the rest of us? Figure out what you wanna be, get it cut off, do whatever you have to...and once you decide and finalize what you "are" then come back to politics...although current politicians have no clue how to do stuff either so I guess all in all this is par for the course.

My problem with this is that whenever I see her speaking on TV or something, I won't be able to pay attention to what she's saying.

I'll be too busy checking out the size of her adams apple, broad muscular shoulders and looking for excessive body hair to pay any attention to what she's saying.

Also, you just know Obama chose her to cheese off the conservative right. Of all of her other qualifications, you know THAT is the one that put her over the top.

So...being the best person for the job is secondary...you'd prefer to have somebody you can identify with...who would do an inferior job than someone outside of your personal frame of reference that would save you money?

Interesting set of priorities. Not unexpected, though...and you're certainly not alone in your bias.
