Ah my apologies I assumed wrongly that you had come to a conclusion.

For me it is more realistic to assume a more conventional reason but strange lights in the sky and strange radiation readings leave me having to entertain a much more exotic lateral explanation.

Well, people see "UFO's" daily, so the value of their presence here is dubious. And some camping equipment circa 1959 included thorium and did provide warnings about radiation exposure. Hinging the ET-theory on these story elements is risky considering there are plausible, terrestrial explanations for these factors.

Now thats some scary crap.

Guess where I wont be going hiking!
It does sound like something crashed.. but the tent being ripped from the inside and the hikers tongue going missing, thats weird. Sounds like something off the blair witch project.

I quite agree on both counts.

I camped in Yosemite in January of 1994. Probably not a good idea, because there were so many bear tracks around it made me genuinely scared. If you sense that the animal is approaching your tent, you'd definitely want to break free at any cost, because it's just terrifying to be mauled while being confined by a collapsed tent. I can totally see that happening. I also don't believe it can be conclusively determined if the tent was definitely broken from the inside (although as I said also possible). My own tent was destroyed on 2 different occasions in the mountains, by wild animals. So I sort of know weird stuff can happen.

As to the tongue missing form one of the bodies, it could have been removed by smaller predators while the victim was still alive.

If you're hiking isnt is a key rule to make sure any food you have is kept sealed to minimize the chance of bears coming over to you in the first place? And if you do get attacked 'play dead'?

The avalance theory has come up in the past with a few variations but they all have the same flaws. For one there was no avalance in the immediate area, proven by no snow flow marks and the tent still standing. They may have thought an avalance was coming as a result of a jet flying over which may have panicked them but then surely they would have returned to the tent, once the danger had passed. They couldnt have got lost as they were so close to the tent (between 200-300 meters away) and even in very low visibility it would still be more than possible to simply retrace your footsteps in the deep snow. One more thing to note if you look at the pictures of the camp site, its a relatively open space which would make it hard to get lost. I think it was something a lot more dangerous and persistant than an avalance not to mention evil.

im going to read this article now. The questions I have I hope can be answered because it seems no one else has asked them. Did the assailant leave any tracks? How do the investigators know the fabric of the tent was torn from the inside? is there a radioactive energy facility near by? its just a shame the sham that is wikipedia is holding this article.. the morons that alter the site often add in their own UFO accounts.

Notes.
Camp was made inconsistent with the experience of the hike leader. In the open instead of sheltered.
The hikers didn’t sent back an expected telegram to the polytechnic institute where they started from.
Group died on the second of feb 1959, and were discovered around the 26th. Plenty of time for predatory attacks. The survivor was told they would be a day or two late. “Just incase”
Report says the first 5 died of hypothermia. The One person had a fractured skull but it wasn’t fatal. Three were facing the camp where it was surmised they had been trying to return. The other two were by a tree. One person climbed it before death resulting from hypo thermia, trying to find the camp.

Months later, the remaining 4 were found under 4 metres of snow in a ravine all suffered severe internal bleeding and massive injuries, broken ribs, crushed skulls, etc. This final set of bodies had injuries consistent with that of BEING HIT BY A CAR... not a train.
There were infact reports of flying spheres.
My conclusion is this:
Dyatlov knew something was up. Strange he sets up camp in a manner inconsistent with his training, telling Yury Yudin to expect them to be a day or two late.
I think a fight broke out, or it was a planned robbery that got out of hand. He probably went to get his gun or something, while out there, the remaining party left by cutting their way out of the tent, and ran off. Dyatlov chases two of them to about the centre of the forest when one falls fracturing his skull (Doctors said this wasn’t fatal) probably found them and realised he needed to get them back to camp to tend the wound. They got lost, and died in the cold. The two by the tree.. also death by cold. The other four, most likely result of an avalanche, as they were found four metres (12-15 feet) under the snow. Injuries consistent with avalanches. Pressure can break organs without bruising you know.
OR
Perhaps they heard something.. an animal or what have you and ran stepping on the tracks on their way down the hill.
As for the radiation, That is probably your UFO. The pilot (if any, and this IS an x-files theory)probably wanted to see what the hell happened, and got close to the remaining four in the snow, covering them with radiation accidentally. The removal of the tongue. This is most likely predatory. The bodies were out there for months you know.
OR dyaltov cut the persons tongue out to show he would kill them. After stepping out to get his gun or something, the others fled. Makes the most sense as his actions were quite strange. (read above)

oh yeah. there was probably no bruising because it was cold. Low temps keep bruising down to almost nothing at all, so the sustained injuries ARE consistent with avalanch (despite the fact that they were found in 15 feet of it.)

Seems more a man made crime scene than anything else. I think the flying spheres are irrelevant to this beyond my x-files theory

Its good to get some different opinions about this and I praise you for opening up some discussion but there are quite a few flaws in your theory there. The main one being that Dyatlov died with the first group. The second group (with massive injuries) took clothing off the first group who died of hypothermia. Also according to the reports no weapons were found with the group.

The avalance theory as mentioned doesnt really hold seeing as there was no tree damage and the last lot of heavily injured victims were found in the forest, out of reach of an avalance. I agree with the fact that the tongue could have been scavengers but I cant think of anything that would cause the other injuries.

One of my theories is based on a weapon in development by the military at the moment. Ultra Low Frequeny weapons are inaudible and cause intense distress without an aparent reason. This could cause serious panic with the hikers not knowing why. At high enough level powerful low frequeny sounds waves can crack bones and shake apart buildings. This may account for the sustained panic and possible death if the power level peaked. If would also leave little damage to the environment and would of course turn the attention to the russion government giving a possible reason why the cause has never been found and the area was closed off for so long.

Unlikely but a possibility

I dont know, when I first heard of this case I imagined a ufo running into them or using some kind of gravity beam maybe an abduction attempt. They were in an open field and people reportedly saw orange spheres. I just say this because I have seen things in the sky and read up on some things which cant be dismissed easily. People see crazy things every year that cant be explained.

This story has almost become myth and how much of it is actually true is anyones guess. Like the radiation thing, I believe that's bull. Why would they test for radiation on someone who died on a hiking trip, that makes no sense at all. My guess is they heard something, like a bear or wolf, near the camp site and freaked out. Some froze to death and the others fell down a ravine and died. Stuff like this happens but when it reaches the tabloids it gets amped up. The examples of this are too many to mention.

That is quite intriguing indeed. to have seasoned climbers found dead so close to their camp. and it couldnt have been an animal. atleast ive never heard of an animal tearing someones tongue out or crushing their skulls with the force of an 80mph blunt collision.

This sounds sensible but the story continues to improve with multiple retellings in the russian press. Here's the latest detailed account -- use 'babelfish' for a rough translation.

I have thought of the unfortunate and unexplained death of these students for some time and as Spock stated in Star Trek – quoted from Sherlock Holmes “… when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth…”

I originally thought that it may have been the Russian army with concussion bombs that were dropped on them by accident.
The army had used this location for secret tests.
Some mention that the army secretly arrived at the crime scene 1 week before the rescuers found the bodies.
This could answer a few of the mysteries but not all!
Why their tent was on the side of the mountain and not logically down at the tree line for shelter and fire wood?
The army could have moved the tent up the mountain to change the crime scene.
Why there was radioactive material on some of the clothing and why they were not wearing any protective clothes for the harsh climate?
The army could have changed their clothes and confiscated clothing which showed being radioactive.
Though all good explanations, I do believe there is only one explanation that holds up to all facets of this case!
Yeti or Abominable Snow Man encounter!
Why would anyone set up camp on the side of the mountain when there was a forested shelter a short distance down the mountain?
On research I found that the small tent used was not their main tent – they had left supplies at a base camp and were using this very small tent for an excursion.
What was their purpose for climbing the Ural mountain range?
I googled Russian news broadcast for 1958 and there was an interesting account a few months earlier of Yeti encounters on this range. That year a number of local Mansi tribe people disappeared.
After this investigation the Russian Government banned all further investigation or reporting on the Yeti with threats of incarceration.
These students may have been acting as investigating reporters and photographers and had to have a cover to conceal their true purpose.
The one person they added to their close group was a guide familiar with this territory. A note on a printed paper in their possession was scribbled “From now on we know that the snow men exist”.
Although they used guns to protect themselves in this wilderness terrain for previous trips (pictures show), they did not carry them this time in case they were stopped and questioned.
Whatever attacked them in their tent did not bite or claw but had extreme power to crush
A similar attack at Yale BC in the 1800’s by some gold miners who claimed to have captured a baby Sasquatch and in Washington State 1920’s of an attack: www.bigfootlives.com...
In 1946 Cultus Lake BC a newlywed couple disappeared from their cabin with only large footprints found surrounding it.

Case Scenario
The illogical pitching of their tent in the open may have been due to a scare from the locals at the last settlement which told them about reindeer being found dead in this area.
They may have felt more secure making camp in the open rather than down within the trees.
After taking off their heavy outerwear and boots and due to the small space within the tent along with the moisture and smell, they would have left this clothing outside, at the back of the tent with their packsacks to dry out. They could have left them in what appears to be an overhang on the rear of the tent where the exhaust stove chimney exits.
They entered the tent in their long johns and tent slippers and had supper.
Shortly after supper 2 of the men went outside to urinate (documented) with a flashlight, which they left on the roof of the tent (documented) and a lighter and cigarettes to have a smoke. It was written in their diary that the women did not want them smoking in the hotel rooms or tent.
While out they were attacked and forced to flee down to the forest for cover.
There they built a fire for warmth and to keep any predators away.
On hearing the commotion outside the tent, 3 students went outside to help with a flashlight and were also attacked.
They fled down the mountain unable to reach their outerwear at the back of the tent.
The Yeti’s attack then centered on the 4 remaining students left in the tent.
The Yeti unable to open the tent door or cut through began to pound on the center of the tent with the students inside slicing their knives back through the tent in defense. It has been reported that Yeti can use sticks as weapons and may have poked through the open slits of the tent with one of the ski poles. It was documented that numerous knife cuts were found on one of the ski poles
The Yeti attack temporarily stopped when they noticed the fire down at the tree line and the 3 students heading towards it with the flashlight (documented and found on this trail still in the on position).
The Yeti have been reported that they are not afraid of fire or light.
The Yeti caught the 3 students before they could reach the tree line.
Yeti use their large powerful arms to club and then bear hug their quarry until subdued and unconscious, all similar injuries reported on the students.
Seeing that the fire was attracting the Yeti the 2 students at the tree tried to franticly put it out, it was reported that one of these student’s hands were burnt possibly by this action.
Next they proceeded to climb a tree.
The report claimed they had climbed the tree to observe if their tent was still there to return to for their survival gear.
The problem with this was that it was after sunset in winter in Russia.
I googled if there was a full moon that night and there was not, so it would have been pitch dark.
The only reason to climb a tree at night would be to try and elude a predator.
It has been stated that Sasquatch can climb trees.
One of the students was found a few hundred feet from the tree still clutching a branch as if he had been dragged down from the tree.
When the remaining 4 students of the group did arrive at the tree they found their companions dead so they removed what clothing they could to keep warm rather than return to their tent and what they thought was back there.
They then went to a ravine and dug a snow cave for shelter.
Unfortunately the Yeti were waiting for them in the forest and pursued them, cornering them at the ravine some short distance away and finished them off.
One problem with the Yeti theory is that no foot prints were ever found.
The explanation is it was sometime after the encounter, in winter, in a valley known for wind.
The Yeti/Sasquatch have a very large bipedal foot, much like a bear paw snow shoe which would leave a very flat shallow print.
These prints would easily disappear with weather conditions.
The final explanation may be the hardest to believe and that is - why have no further sightings or findings been made of Yeti in this location?
With all our technologies these mountains and the world in general have become a lot smaller but the Universe is immense and unknown.
There were unexplained lights in the sky at this location seen by other observers.
Strange creatures have been reported all over the world with similar globe light occurrences (Kentucky Goblin Encounter,Chupacabras, Ogopogo, Lochness Monster, and other such things).
Many documented encounters with Sasquatch have been reported with similar globe lights seen in the vicinity.
Could it be that there are time portals throughout the Universe and these creatures accidently pass through them?

Could a nuclear blast such as the 1957-58 Russian accidental nuclear explosion at Kyshtym ( just a few miles south
of Oblast Swerdlowsk where these students were) cause a rip in our universe?
This accident reportedly killed 1000’s of people and contaminated a 100 square kilometer area with high level radiation.
Could the radiation on their clothing have come from physical contact with these entities or the terrain
itself?

One such strange occurrence happened in Manila in 1593 where a guard was suddenly transported to Mexico City
www.psychic101.com...

All in all strange and unexplained things happen and it is left up to us to ponder what the truth might be.
Thanks for your ability to have your mind open to care for an explanation for these unfortunate beings

Problem with that is, there are no bite marks from animals on any of them, as far as we know.....middle of icy snowy weather.......it's definitely an odd story. "Someone" must know what really happened.........wondering if they kept anything at all classified about this case...hhmmmm....

The Sasquatch have "not" been reported as biting or clawing when they have attacked, but use their arms as a weapon to club and suffocate.
It has been reported that attacks on cattle have shown torn ears and gouged eyes which could explain the missing tongue and eyes of one of the students.
Death contributed to suffocation would explain the odd skin color of some of the students noticed by people at their funeral.
Forensics state that when a death occurs by suffocation the blood does not return back to the organs, but pools at the extremities and would freeze and show an abnormal skin coloring.

Many theories believe that the death of these students were caused by UFO's
The night in question had strange globe lights passing over head where this tragedy occurred
It was cross witnessed by several people and seen by other campers 30 miles up the valley.
I do believe that these globes have been seen by many people at the time of Sasquatch sightings and may be the remnants of time portals between universes in which these creatures pass.
