The West Coast of the US/Alaska/Mexico and further south sure is active right now. I've been assuming the activity in southern Cali and Baja Mexico was continuing aftershocks from the biggie earlier in the year...

I'm hoping this is the last. In the area. I've said from the start of the BP disaster that I believe that the area will collapse in on itself due to the oil catastrophe.
Hope I'm wrong.
I also believe that the reason the miners in chile are still where they are is because of movement within the earth. Drill snapping due to movement perhaps?
The whole area is a disaster as it is but I feel its nothing compared to what's possibly coming.
Be safe.

Alaska 5 mag.
Seems like activity is picking up around the ring of fire again? Nothing to do with sun' activity of course. ?
Be interesting to see where next. Indonesia perhaps? Maybe volcanic activity?
Who knows, all I'm saying is that I think there's a connection but hey I'm a nobody.

Definitely not any solar activity going on in regards to Flares or CME's. Sunspot 1106 has a slight chance for C-class flares and there are some awesome northern lights in Norway. The Sun's magnetic field with Earth tipped south last night (which is normal), but is causing amazing sights like this pic below from SpaceWeather.

The eastern side of the Ring of Fire sure is fiesty right now.

Enjoy the pic (I thought it was awesome).

so today in my west coast city there was a scheduled tsunami warning TEST, we recently had one of these fail a couple months ago,

so today they said it would be tested at 10:15 -
www.1190kex.com...
"The National Weather Service and emergency communications units along the West Coast will participate in a tsunami warning drill Wednesday morning. Around 10:15 a.m.,"

but as i was listening to the radio broadcasting here out of the coast, the time came and went, the warning finaly occured at 10:48, over the radio, i never heard any sirens, i suppose maybe the sirens are beyond my ear shot, im still trying to find were they are.

but it failed totaly a couple months ago, and now today it was over half an hour late,

i guess i better hope that any potential tsunami will accompany a strong quake. they don't always

how could this system be so falible? are they setting us up for disaster or is it simply incompetence that has the system failing so much.

Maybe I was a bit hasty debunking the P-wave shadow 103 line theory, seems the recent americas quakes are all along the 103 edge of the shadow. (Darfield P-wave map post link)
Whiteside did say "Strong seismicity is often seen at this distance in the weeks following strong earthquakes"
It has just been 13 days since the Darfield quake, so still within the parameters.

Big quake there ( somewhere on the 103 line) soon

Which just happens to run - for the greater part - round the line of the ring of fire so I guess you would expect to find quakes there!

No, I agree with your first appraisal - debunked!

This is such a simplistic scenario that if there was any serious mileage in it this would have been discovered long ago.

There will be soon an earthquake in Mexico / California / or Alaska. A Magnitude 7.
Then there will be on the other side of the ring another strong earthquake. As always.

Yeah you are right, this P-wave may be a red herring.
I had a look back on the last 3 Very Strong Global quakes and the sequence doesn't follow correctly.
I forgot about the Marianas quake on 13/8 after the Ecuador one and before the Darfield.

If the P-wave theory was to be followed and using the 103 line as a reference it should have gone like this

Vanuatu quake of 10/8
neic.usgs.gov...
The p-wave 103 runs through such places as Chile, Costa Rica, Texas, Kashmir/Pakistan, South Sandwich Islands
but the next Very Strong quake was in Ecuador (admittedly within the shadow 103-140)

Ecudaor quake of 12/8
neic.usgs.gov...
The P-wave 103 runs through New Zealand, Ballaney Islands, South Africa, Congo, Greece, end of the Aluetians , Samoa, Tonga
but the next Very Strong quake was in Marianas Island
(admittedly just within the shadow 103-140)

Marianas quake of 13/8
neic.usgs.gov...
The p-wave 103 runs through Mexico, Greenland, Iceland, Greece, African Rift Valley, Madagascar

but the next Very Strong quake was in New Zealand
and thats where it all falls apart, the 103 line or for that matter the 103-140 shadow of the Marianas quake doesn't come anywhere near New Zealand
The only way it would work is if you discount the Marianas which USGS downgraded to 6.9. Maybe 7.0Mw is the treshold

still, 2 out of 3 subsequent quakes DID occur within the shadow line, thats enough to make me want to investigate further.
I'll waste a day on it, its blowing 100+kmph here right now, got the day off.
