If you take a look at one of the closer webicorders K22A.TA..BHZ.2010.154 you will note that there is an event commencing at 21:09. It does not seem strong enough to have registered a 3.0, but I don't know what other information the computer system was drawing upon. There were 22 stations recorded as 'seeing' the event so one would need to know all 22 to determine what happened.

I suspect this particular on e is perhaps a genuine computer 'error' that has been corrected when reviewed by a seismologist.

Hi I am new to posting so I hope I get this right. I have been lurking for a few weeks now and decide to join.

New Madrid fault has had a swarm of small earthquakes over the past few days. Is this normal?

Hi there.
In answer to your question why not do a search using USGS Circular Search and pick one of those co-ordinates as the centre of the search and expand the Dates back a few years or months.

edit: heres your answer, quakes are few and far between here, but you will notice they do happen in groups (swarms).
There is nothing below Mag. 2.4 but that may reflect the type of siesmographs they have in the area rather than the number of micro quakes there.

New Zealand Quakes 4th June 2010 UTC

Nothing over 3.938ML (o/s Milford Sound, Fiordland) since the last one I posted.

Couple of minor Felt quakes though, a 3.015ML south of Whale Island BOP and the Geonet Catalogue is showing two quakes at the same time but 2.13km apart, a 3.572ML and a 3.627ML at Cape Egmont the most western one reported as Felt.
I can't see how they can tell which one it was that was Felt with that zero time difference.

Where is everyone?

Looks like I'm the only one posting here and its turning into a NZ dominated Thread.

Isn't there any erathquakes where you are at?

I'll stop posting for now. even though there was a 3.7ML right near me early this morning that was widely felt and a couple of 4's as well

Anyone interested can follow the NZ earthquakes on a daily basis at my blog. There is a link on my ATS profile to it.

We have not abandoned Muzzy Quake Watch 2010, or at least I have not. It is just that with the things going on in the ME at present I have been spending time on that.

Let's face it, it is quiet in the world at present as far as quakes go. Not even the normal number of 5.0+ quakes, so there is nothing to report on.

Sorry, I am not quite understanding what you are saying?

Mine blasts are of course a possibility for 'quakes' to vanish, but it is a while before the fact that a quake has gone can be verified as because it is a mine blast.

As you will no doubt have seen the lists you kindly showed only go to Feb of this year, by which time a vanishing quake has been long forgotten here!

Yes - there was a small one last night (or this morning depending on time zone) in Santa Monica CA.

Only a 2.2 - but felt it.

It does. While this all started with the Baja 7.2 I do wonder whether this ongoing activity along the fault line is a new event building as a result of the 7.2, but further north around the Long Valley area.

Just noticed a thread going about this: www.abovetopsecret.com...

Katla had a wee shimmy earlier, too, with 3 quakes near the caldera rim. "Eruption" contributors put this activity down to a mixture of faults in the caldera walls and the ice cap. scienceblogs.com...

Still, worth keeping an eye on.
