Salvation Army major shot dead in Arkansas on Christmas Eve

Maj. Philip Wise, 40, was gunned down Thursday. He was found lying by the back entrance of a Salvation Army facility, said police spokesman Sgt. Terry Kuykendall.

Wise apparently dropped two bell ringers off at home and returned to the Salvation Army building with his three children, ages 4, 6 and 8. Two men carrying handguns approached them and demanded money before shooting Wise, Kuykendall said.

The suspects fled on foot.

Grinches robbing US poor at Christmas

Hear is a wonderful piece of news for this season. A father being killed in front of his three children while at a salvation army drop off center. The article says the perpetrators demanded money, I can't help but think if they were to go this low that they might have a drug habit or something of the like to support. This can be added to the list of other crimes against charities that seems to happen this time of year.

I can really see where you might just want to give up on the whole race, but that is not really the answer. Remember the man who was killed was working for a charity. Just a little bit of good in people is what keeps a charity going. Also people rarely kill with out a motive. So what that motive is can be important. It can also help the rest of us to see why giving up on the whole race is really not the thing to do.

I worked as a bell ringer for the army a couple of years ago.Many people donating shared stories of how the salvation army helped them when they were refused aid everywhere else.The collections dont end until well after midnight and between all the ringers pots a great deal of money.I pray the killers nothing but the worst for their immortal sins.

Oh dear god, in front off his children too. What is this world comming to. The more each day passes, some despicable human being does this.

I know I'm gonna get roasted for this, but I wish the black community would straighten out their problems. As in this case, 90% of the time the police are looking for "suspects black". And don't try to tell me I'm exaggerating or being racist. I mean no disrespect, but I read the local papers here every day and the vast majority of violent crimes and homicides are perpetrated by the black community. Reminds me of high school.

Until we get over this PC BS and really put the heat on the black community, the street culture will never change. White guilt needs to be met with equal part black guilt if we are to sort this out. Change needs to come.

Well OG you are right but it's not PC to say it but we have to. Were working to get the local Salvation Army ran out of town for all the damage they do the neighborhood. Put them out of the center of town so we can rebuild without the criminals dropping by 3 times a day for food.

I think if the public finds them they might just end up hanging some place. Then again even some inmates on the inside might come down hard on them (if they are caught and convicted). It is pretty sad they would shoot the guy in front his kids. I imagine they will have scars that will last a life time after this.

As if they could not get any lower than stealing from charity they take it one more step and kill the guy in front of his kids.

That's just sad. It's not just that someone was killed, it's compounded by the fact that his kids most likely saw it happen, and it happened during christmas. No matter how much help those kids get, christmas will never be a truly happy time from this point onward. The guys that did this need killing, to put it bluntly.

I'm going to follow this story closely. We can hope at least that these perps are caught quickly. Somehow I feel certain that the community in that area is not safe with these people on the loose.

Whether they are of color or not makes no difference. They must answer for what they have done, not for the color of their skin.

A truly sad story.

The sad thing is if they had asked him for money/food/whatever he probably would have given it to them.

Such a waste.

Edit to add: I would count on that if these men were local that he probably knew them too, since he's been in that area with the salvation army for 3 years.

you know this is so sad in ever way
for the salvation army to have to exist in a western country in which many people seem to have everything
for the poor man who was trying to help people who are somtimes very hard to help
for the children to watch a very good man die having their father taken from them in such a terible way
for the two human beings to be so dehumanised as to think stolen money would be the answer
i despair for the world
