I was hoping the ATS black community could share their feelings on this topic.
I watched this video and it seemed that the three black pundits could not come to a conclusion on it.

obama was never intended to be a success for black americans.i think bush did a better job at acclimating black americans to how things are to go for "america"; than thinking just because theres a african president things are going to go his way and are going to be success for blacks in america.

Obama is failing Americans.... All, regardless of race.

Obama is not failing to satisfy the elites, corporate giants, globalists, socialists, special interests, lobbyists and more people we will never know of because they are all in a class so far above us that it is impossible to see them.

Obama doesn't care any more or less for African-Americans than he does for the middle class, or the working class Americans who are suffering even greater now as a direct result of his policies and agendas than they were under his predecessor's. And those will suffer even more if he gets his way with health care reform and energy reform.

Obama forgot about ALL American people as soon as he was safely in office and began working on his real agenda.

Wake the F' up America!

to the posters after me; are you black?

i hear more complaints about obama than i should.and i think most of these criticisms may be because he is black or maybe the times have changed and because bush was heavily criticized(albeit in a different manner) it is normal to complain and wine about the choices a president has to make.

I'm not black... so I can't speak about this president?

We are divided enough without being further divided along racial lines.

When I was a very avid supporter of Obama... One change I had hoped his presidency, among other things would bring, was to finally remove race from the equation. Though apparently that hasn't happened. Like so many other changes we thought he'd bring but failed to deliver.

To say that Obama has failed African-Americans alone would be racist.

Obama's failures are his greatest success... apparently.

I have never seen Obama as a black man, nor as a white man, I seen him as a human being who I wanted badly to believe in.... He has proven to be just another wasted vote in my opinion.

You hear more complaints about Obama than you should?

Should we all just shut up, lay down and take it?

Should we allow only African-Americans to complain about this president to avoid being seen as racists?

Please, can we once and for all move beyond racism... at least in regard to this president... who was elected by not only "black" votes but MILLIONS of whites too!

If Obama fails he has failed us all, regardless of race period.

I am not black, but I can tell you this. I live near Atlanta, GA. This city IS a black majority city and MANY blacks turned out in record numbers to vote for Obama because he was black. They had no idea about his politcal views, affiliations, etc...and didn't care. They weren't shy about why he was getting their vote. Many, and I mean many, black people made statements such as:

"this is our time to shine"
"now the tables have been turned"
"what are they gonna do now that we're in charge"

Now granted the black populace that knew better disagreed and told others to stop acting like fools and vote for the RIGHT reasons....they of course didn't...and currently I can also tell you, those who understand politics and know what is good for this country are NOT happy...and many of them are NOT white!

utter rubbish.

as a rule, republicans are more vocal in opposition than democrats. they love to sling mud. democrats seem to think they are above that kind behavior (they're actually just a bit more subtle).

i'm a european and i know that ffs, have you considered the idea that you might be seeing racism because you are pre-judging the situation based on racial stereotypes?

Why blacks?

Shouldn't the question have been, "is Obama failing Americans?"

you were the one that accused others of holding their views because they were racist, which, as far as i can see, is the first "off-topic post". if you want to stay on topic, stay on topic.

The topic is, do blacks feel Obama let them down?

but back on topic;

i feel personally that obama is failing black voters who voted for him in hopes that his platform of change would change the systematic and perpetual laws governing black oppression in america on the fronts of economy entertainment sexual/family values and criminal/judicial systems..,etc.i feel that the voters wanted him to do what many people have been doing in america but to do for black people specifically what many politicians have been doing for whites; a good ole boy system, but for blacks.since this is not the overall measure of his success and the question is "is obama failing blacks": i would have to say that success for all of america is NOT success for also black americans.

Agreed, but unfortunately failure for all of america IS also failure for black americans.

Tragically, it seems American blacks lost twice with Mr. Obama.

naa; if america fails it wont be the first time blacks were in captivity and bought a nation to prosperity and witnessed a nation fall: i think i would be fine without a system that is my government governing over me by proxy of others choices/votes.

You're kidding right? If you feel the government is oppressing all of these things, I can't even begin to see where you are coming from. Change the systematic and perpetual laws governing black oppression in america on the fronts of economy entertainment sexual/family values ......again, you're joking right? Entertainment.....uh nope, sexual/family values....those are up to the individual, as well as their local community.......some things government just can't fix.

All I will say on this is as bad as I felt for blacks back in the 60's (i.e. 15 years before I was even born), this continuing attempt to use the PAST as an excuse is getting old...REAL OLD! Especially almost 40 years after the fact!

Bottom line: Until EVERY black in America makes less money than I do (I am white) and every other white American, YOU ARE NOT OPPRESSED!!! Maybe in your mind your oppressed because you don't drive a BMW, or live in Beverly Hills...but neither does a whole slew of people from all races. I can name 100 blacks and 1000 minorities that make over ONE MILLION DOLLARS a year...so tell me man...where is this so called oppression???
