I'm in California right now. The age of consent is 18. If I drive a couple hours east into Nevada the age of consent is 16. If I drive a couple hours south into Mexico, depending on which state I'm in the age of consent can be as low as 12. If I hop on a plane north into Canada, the age of consent jumps back up to 16. If I hop on a plane and go west into Japan the age of consent is 13.

So at what age it is illegal is highly variable.

At what age is it "sick?"

For that matter...the above numbers are ages at which it is legal to actually have sex with people. Here in this thread we're discussing people and are not acting on it, but merely talking about it. So far as I know it's not illegal to talk about sex with people anywhere on my continent.

So at what age is it "sick" for these people to even be talking about it?

2000 years ago, you would have blamed it on demons and possession. Now it's cults and governments. Anything to avoid the painful, realistic truth that Humans are not pure little snowflakes.

I am completely appalled by this. Not only that this is going on, but that people on here think it's okay!? This is in no way a civil right. These people are criminals informing other criminals of ways to victimize children and sympathizing with each other about how there feelings are "natural." If these women are victims themselves, they are worse than the others because they know what it's like. Men or women who partake in these websites should be put in jail IMO. I just wish they would have put the websites in the article so we could get on and berate these people....Sickening!

Im sorry guys, but it seems strange to me that something that was completely normal for every generation from our great grandfathers and on back, is now completely considered a sick pathology. It is ALL of human history. The whole idea of childhood extending through the age of 18 is something we recently created, as is the idea that the maturity to agree to adult activities comes around the age we are done high school.

Until very recent history, children were expected to act as adults and take a share of the work as soon as they were able to pull a rake or push a plowhorse, or milk a cow. They were expected to start having kids as soon as they had their first menses.

Now im not trying to say that this is the most enlightened behavior by any means. However, to take something that was a normal and regular part of our behaviour and evolution, that of engaging in physical congress when the nature of our bodies decides we are ready, and saying it is wrong and that all our ancestors were pathologic pedophiles, seems a bit farfetched to me.

Now, I generally date women 5-7 years older than me...because most my age are a bit immature and materialist however, to automatically assume that someone over the age of 18 having sex with someone in their middle teens always ends in trauma for the youth....thats a bit ignorant.

Take the trobriand islanders. At the age of puberty, an adult female relative often takes the young male aside and teaches him the ways of sexual intimacy. They are a very open sexual society, among the most in the world....and yet in their society there is little to none of rape, perversion, and other forms of pathological sex disorders. WE, on the other hand, one of the most sexually repressive countries in the world, have massive amounts of rape and perversion, with many people never able to find their true sexual joy, and many folks having sexual issues throughout their whole adult life. Go figure. The guilt instilled by our fundamentalist religious background goes hand in hand with the need to point at others and say how sick and depraved they are.

This is really sad and hopefully will convince people that child molestation is no joke and just the beginning of a never ending cycle of abuse. If you were abused as a child, your sexual identity and reality is skewed. You (thinking this is just normal or typical in some families-though unspoken) are more likely to do the same thing to children when you become an adult. "Well I was sexual at 6 and it didn't hurt me" They will think, not knowing it has damaged them irreparably.
It is ineffective to attempt to break this cycle by focus on incarcerating adults who perpetuate this awful crime. Not that they shouldn't be removed from society and interaction with children -certainly they should.
But it is much more important to remove the veil of secrecy that surrounds sex and frightens children into silence. Within this shadowy area of puritan "don't talk about it" belief is room and the means for devious people to operate and fool or frighten the children into keeping their wicked secrets.

I blame porn and marketing on this one...looka t our history, up till the 1900's more or less mand nad woman mostly, had to be married, in the eyes of the pblic, before any sex went on. It wasnt until porn became mainstream, that people seemed to be flaunting thigns all over the place, coming outta the wordwork. its ALL over magazines, DEF all over aol, very easy to get for free...and can in fact, alter people into doing things they never would have thought of.
but im just as guilty, i do love porn, and dont codnone it 100% im just putting things out in the clear here. i am very positive, if porn want as big as it is today, easy to get, people would be thinking more about their lives, familys..i cannot tell you how many women ive chatted wih online who think about sex almsot as we guys do of not more...and the risks they take! going no condom bearback and all....all usualy around the age of 20 tfor sex with such high risks. they musta learned it, from a porno mpeg turned em on, ro her male freinds sa it, acted them out on her at such a young age, and grew on her*

Ok, wait a minute....lemme get this straight. Are you trying to say that girls learn not using condoms from watching porno's??? Really? I HOPE thats not what you are trying to say. Yes, it is more risky...but i think most people rather not use condoms because it FEELS BETTER WITHOUT THEM.

There are plenty countries where porno's are not available, and yet people dont use condoms. The sad fact of the matter is that while condoms are our best protection from STD's, they do irritate, and they remove sensitivity, and they are just plain inconvenient sometimes. Im not advocating non use, im just pointing out that there are real reasons many dont like condoms, and its not because they saw people in porno's not using them. If women were that impressionable they would all be screwin their plumbers and fed ex men.

Women commit illegal sexual acts on children just as much as men and you would be a fool to think otherwise... The problem is it is not reported as often when a women does it... There is a horrible social issue here where it is some how less wrong to abuse a child if a women does it...

That is a big problem and needs to be addressed because child abuse is wrong whether you are a man or a woman.

Child abuse happens and it is performed by men AND WOMEN! To deny that is to deny abused children the safety and love they need and you allow the abuse to continue.

Please don't look away. Help these children. And I don't mean just the ones who are abused by men. I mean ALL OF THEM!

Totally agree but, you shouldn't give a retrofitted backward thinking populace ammunition to justify child-sex....the Bible is bad enough when it comes to incest. In 2010 we know children are best staying children for as long as possible. Fact -Ask yourself, would I have wanted my childhood to last a little longer? Would it have hurt anything at all to do so? You know the answer.
We must take pains to let children have carefree fun as long as possible with out the heavy burden and life altering consequences of sexuality.
This is like ripping the flowers from the vine...they may not ever bloom again.
If children miss the childhood stage - and remember that SEX IMMEDIATELY ENDS THE CHILDHOOD STAGE and launches one into adulthood even if they are 13, we will try to recapture what we missed.

When they are abused as children they usually end up being abused... I will assume you meant abusers. Either way it is absolute bull. Believe it or not being born with a vagina does not make a person a saint free of evil or mental short circuits.

The difference is that for years a male mentioning abuse by a woman was considerred less than a man. There still is a stigma attached. I've heard stand up comedians and news anchors both ask "what was wrong with this kid." When he admits to it and stops the abuse.

It has always been thought that males should be sexually active earlier than females. It has also been a long held belief that males should look at their first sex as the time they "become a man." Most young boys and teenagers are not going to do anything to be seen as less of a man. For most males having your man hood question is like having your whole worth as a human questioned. Would you want to say "I am not human?" Would you want to say "I am not equall to all others of my gender?" Do you understand why reporting female predators is so difficult for young boys?

That doesn't even go in to the fact that for a long time it was considerred a symbol of honor if a teen male could get an 'older woman" in bed. Plus we haven't even looked at the recent "Cougar" phenomenon. 40+ year-old women are dating 18 year-old boys in numbers similar to 40 year-old men and younger women. So why wouldn't the number of of women predators be in some way proportionate to male predators?

So true, no one who sexually abuses children is blameless or has a really good reason. That said, people who were abused do end up abusing themselves, no bull, something like 90% of the time. This is self defeating behavior (actually a self-discipline problem) that erodes the fabric of our society, divides and weakens families and entire communities.
Women are as capable of sexual predatory aggression but again statistics show this, though not unheard of, is a late breaking trend it is far and away a male dominated field.
I can easily equate a man with an overwhelming libido to a wolf. A woman so inclined I think can be re-trained to act differently. It is not inherent in her nature, she is more like a very bad dog.

You know this is rubbish right? Prostitutes have been around since biblical times at least. Concubines for those that could afford it have been common place since the beginning of wealth hording.

Do some research on the sexual history of Japan and China if you want to blow your whole post apart. Japan has a bustling industry called Lolacom or Lolita Comics. Why? Because untill the last quarter centruy there was no age of consent.

Check out the history of "pornography." It was carved in to the walls of temples in ancient times.

Porn and unmarried sex hasn't ruined the fiber of society, or turned us in to a nation of predators. Remember in colonial days it was not unheard of for 13 and 14 year-old girls to be married off. They were old enough to work and reproduce. So they were considerred old enough for mariage and sex.

I don't condone the sexualization of youngsters. I also don't condone the overwhelming amount of unhealthy sexual interaction that makes up modern porn. However, I don't think that premarital sex and porn have combined to destroy the society.
