The National Zoo's favorite son is leaving D.C.

Yes, the day to say goodbye to Tai Shan is finally, sadly, coming.

Sources at the Smithsonian and the National Zoo said the first panda born at the Zoo to survive more than a few days is bound for China to take part in a breeding program there.

I honestly believe that this incident is a crock of utter garbage. First of all, who negotiated this retarded treaty in the first place? It is absolutely a waste of tax payer money, and simply beyond dumb, to somehow pay Millions of Dollars to the Chinese for the lease of Panda surrogates, all the while we have to also return whatever offspring they manage to produce (Which took YEARS of untold effort btw).

Second, I have never come across a long-standing treaty which could never be renegotiated between non-hostile entities. Seeing how this issue obviously deals with monetary funds and conservation, I see no reason behind why there could not be made a successfully convincing argument as to why we should be able to keep the Panda.

Third, they're planning on taking the rest of the Pandas in the United States within the next year as well.

Finally, whatever happened to the Citizenship status granted to those born within our Country? Yes, I know, Tai Shan is a Panda Bear, but it's still a valid assumption.

Give the Chinese our Jobs, our Debt Ownership, and now our Pandas. What have the Chinese ever given us except for grief and job loss?

I say we keep Tai-Shan.
