Are there any theories as to what was around before the big bang?

Every brain has it's limitations, and I sometimes think it's pure arrogance
on our part to think we will one day work out all the answers with a mere human brain.
I can teach my clever little Westie dog the alphabet every day for the rest of her life.
But she will still die not having a clue what I was on about.
