just to broaden the thinking of a few people here...why is it assumed that any given ET culture would have to be "more advanced" than us? because our technology is still a ways away from interstellar capability? Who says any non-terrestrial life would even use the same type of science we posses? Perhaps there is another path to the same ability? One reached easily through a different science we do no know? if so, there is no requirement for long-term civilization, etc. Think outside of the box, not just in its dark corners. anything is possible

if there is one things that stands like a rock for the future than it is this:we are going to learn a bunch more natural laws than we know already !
i think in the near past humane life will fade out on this planet !
humans are really not the "IT" most wanted another civilisation in space will make contact with.it is possible that we have a spaceship taking off into a deepspace trip for years to go along with some of the best chosen species around to breed in space but...with the poor technology of today
making such a trip is a real dangerous and failureprone one !
we do know all what problems can arise from the past attempts in space we made.
if there is no back up option to get new materials anymore from the planet earth...to replace damaged or malfuncioning items...
and if travelling for years in space than bodyfunctions will be altered also
due to the long stay in that dangerous enviroment the spaceship will have.

and about other contact with aliens by radio,tv,radar,rontgen...waves
who knows for sure the aliens have the same technology and set to respond to ours ?
