Love that pic.

Its funny because right when I started reading this thread that's the first thing I thought about.

The Mist, an interesting movie. Didnt care much for the ending.

Even though i do not think anything bad will happen, do you not agree that science has put the human race in danger before?

What sort of people think trying to set the atmosphere alight, with H bombs, is a good idea.

Am i right in saying man did that in the 50's?

I just wonder where the answers these people get will lead them, we all know science is usually used first for bad things in reality to others.

Yes, that does happen from time to time.

It's never been halted, the only that's stopped was news coverage of it because some idiots tried hacking into it.

That would put a dent in ATS's membership

No its not. They simply discovered the means, what we do with it is our responsibility. knowledge is neither good nor bad until we apply it with either intention.

What the people running the LHC are looking for is the holy grail of quantum physics, the key particle that controls all other particles. With control of this you would be able to form and reform matter, create new matter or use high volumes of energy. You could open space time like a curtain and look beyond it, past it, and through it. You could travel to time past or future and any speed you wanted. You could create wormholes and fall through the cosmos at speeds never conceived. This is what they want and this is "ALICE." There are worse things then dying the black hole death, like the rise of powerful godlike persons who can control change and recreate your past present and future. It is quite possible they would manipulate all this with thought, as strange as that might seem.

On the reality side, God will not be undone so He will not allow the LHC to get to that point. Such power belongs to God alone. Let's just hope that we don't have to get sucked down a black hole to keep us out of God's domain.

Agreed, I'd rather die from something cool like this then something boring like cancer.

2nd line.

Well I would rather die in old age with my grandchildren near me,cant believe some of you lot on here saying this is cool. What they putting in the water down under! If i die I want it to be because of what I have done or my body just gives up after a long life, not some arogant nerd gunnning for a science award and his name in the history books who takes me out for good! For those on here saying role on,life here is boring-get a life!lol and you wouldnt be saying that!

Black holes were a myth, still know nothing about them and egg heads are talking about not worrying about a micro one forming! Then in the same breath I have heard them mention looking into other realities in this test

Hopefully it works out for them, and if if doesnt I just hope these people working their fade to black and the rest of us get spared

Don't people here ever decide to look into stuff they read here, especially if you believe it could destroy the earth. I mean, I have a bit of an interest in science (defo no scientist though). So i read up on the higgs boson, accelerators, black holes and strangelets.

Idiots guide to why CERN is not going to kill us.

1. Particle accelerators are not new, this one is just bigger and so can get the particles closer to the speed of light, meaning the collision has more energy which will rip the particle apart more and also make the resulting bits last longer (time slows down more the closer you get to the speed of light).

2. The same collisions happen constantly in space, on earth, everywhere. Particles are whizzing around at far closer to the speed of light that this experiment manages, and collisions between these particles are common. CERN just smashes them together where they can be examined.

3. If (and its a big if) they create a mini black hole, they will know nothing about it, it will flit in and out of existence and never be seen. It will be smaller than you could possibly imagine with a gravitational field just as weak as its size. The only way they will know they are being created is by chance after creating hundreds of them one is created with a boson flying close enough for the black holes gravity to effect its path. At this scale there will be nothing for the black hole to consume. something a millimeter away is equivalent to light years away for us.

4. strangelets are pretty much Scifi, just no one has definitively proved they cannot exist yet. It is similar to the theory that the discovery of the higgs boson is so abhorrent to nature that at the instant it is created, it ripples back through time and stops itself being discovered. It is ridiculously unlikely to be true, but cannot be completely discounted.

If you believe things just because they make sense, you open yourself up to being exposed as the fool you are as soon as you come across someone with proper knowledge on the subject.

From what I've just heard the CERN team have sucessfully smashed the first particles together in the collider. No Black Holes or Transdimensional Creatures being reported out of Geneva just yet.

Some of you need a sum up of the LHC. The concept is very simple although the machine itself is not.

We are going to accelerate beams of protons to just under the speed of light and then ram them into each other creating a spray of sub atomic particles.

This happens all the time in the natural universe and even within our own atmosphere. The only difference is, the LHC provides us with a magnifying glass.

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) can achieve an energy that no other particle accelerators have reached before, but Nature routinely produces higher energies in cosmic-ray collisions. Concerns about the safety of whatever may be created in such high-energy particle collisions have been addressed for many years. In the light of new experimental data and theoretical understanding, the LHC Safety Assessment Group (LSAG) has updated a review of the analysis made in 2003 by the LHC Safety Study Group, a group of independent scientists.

CERN - SOURCE

In our own atmosphere.

No need to be afraid Children, just look forward to the results!

Huh?

I think you may have misinterpreted that. If they created a black hole, that means they wouldve created a mass so heavy its collapsed in on itself. That also means the Earth wouldve pretty much imploded

Sorry but that is a ridiculous scenario

not necissarily while they didn't have collisions in 08 even if they had the "micro" black holes would evaporate before they could do any real damage. Indeed a rediculous scenario. What everyone needs to keep in mind is that high-energy particles are smashed in our upper atmosphere 24 hrs a day at a higher rate than 7TeV. Which has not yet lead to the earths demise and its been going on for billions of years.

Its funny when the scared say things like this is a disgrace. . . being so narrow is disgraceful. Its happened time and time again through out histroy. When a Civilization stops seeking new knowledge they inevitably collapse.

Stop being afraid. While this is a conspiracy web-site, it seems that some people are so paranoid they need help. You can't live in fear forever.

I do not think anything bad will happen, but some people here do have a point.

During the 50's didn't so called intelligent people try to set the atmosphere on fire on purpose with h bombs.

Is that not insane, why would any person want to even try that and do it on purpose?

Like i said i doubt people should be scared of this, you should be more scared of what they find, and we know the ptb will use it against us all in some military secret program or other. They usually do.

I was just talking about this thing yesterday.
I don't know how to feel about it haha. I am of course excited and would be amazed by the outcome whatever it may be but still could see it from the maybe we shouldn't be tampering with ideas so powerful side. Some things are better left unknown but of course I want to know.

I guess some how mankind might know how to stop a blackhole
anywho i heard a rumour that they have a cell of cement, plasma, lead and steel just in case something does come on out. also i'm worried about this thing not having some sort of Ionic field. (force field)

we dont need to know how to stop it. Entropy always increases and blackholes decay just like anything else. The thing is that these "micro" blackholes have so little mass and so little gravity that they decay almost as fast as they are formed. . .

heres a better explanation than i can provide

Is there any chance this hadron collider might open a door or gateway to another dimention or time period. If this is the case the gateway may pose a danger.Evil alien armies or demon armies may travel though the gate to invade our world.Alien invasion in 2012.
