I've been wondering about this alot and would like to do a lil poll here with you guys.

What I noticed is how people that stop watching television open up for the kind of topics talked about on ATS.

I myself haven't watched much tele except some news and a movie here and there for the last 10 years. Ever since I got on the internet I spent most of my free time sitting in front of a computer.

What I noticed is that since my parents stopped watching alot of television(mainly by having other hobby's and just prefering a good book in the evening) they have become much more open about what I have to tell.

Also I noticed that alot of people I know, on and offline, that don't watch tele or stopped watching tele end up on sites like this or just generaly open up about ATS type topics.

So it really does seem that TV has a rather heavy mindnumbing influence on people. Not just disinformation and propaganda and your subliminal here and there, but the bulk of, in my eyes, dumb tv shows, soaps, talkshows, gameshows and so on, really have a dumbing effect on people.

EDIT: just noticed I fumpled up the thread title :p

Its supposed to be:
Television, how it affects us.
instead of
Television, how it effects the us.

Tis late again hehe

I also think that when you arent watching TV it lets your brain think about other things that arent mind-numbing, so you become better educated, and like you said,

[they] open up for the kind of topics talked about on ATS.

So what exactly are you polling theMatrix?

T.V.'s great. Especially channels like MTV, which are showing kids they aren't krap unless they have Hummers, Bling-bling, and Mansions!

i agree, i think it would be intresting to see a poll on this.
i hardly watch any tv and get my news from newspapers and the internet instead. I would like to see how much tv the average poster on ATS watches.

i definatly believe that the television is an "idiot box"
more so now than ever before (stupid "reality" shows)

i only watch around 2 or 3 hours a week on average

Yes exactly. But I tend to think that totaly not watching tele works best. Even if a person just watches 2 or 3 shows every week, it already seems to have an effect.

Maybe thats just me being paranoia :p

Exactly. Something I noticed about those "reality shows".
My sister, although being a damn smart double doctorate and 4 postdoctorate degreed on her way to being a full fledged biology professor brainiac, watches alot of tele, especialy soaps and reality shows.

Last thing I caught her watching at was "The Real World" with that dumb blonde airhead called Paris Hilton. Whats "reality" about that!!!???

All those MTV so called "reality shows" have totaly nothing to do with what happens in real life, its totaly rediculous they even care to call it that.

I watch the same amount of tv as I did before finding ATS and getting involved in these subjects.

I actually probably watch a little more tv now, looking for things to discuss here and always trying to find new info on conspiracies, etc.

by the way... reality shows suck... except for The Apprentice

Seeing you say you watch to gather information, your already looking at tele with a whole different perspective then what the general populous does.

Not for the sheer "entertainment" but with an open mind, very aware of what there is to find on tele.

some years ago you could pick what you wanted to watch. you could at least choose from 1 or 2 staitions now you only see the same shows on all the stations..I hate to let my kids watch .You never know when someone is going to be killed, raped,or beaten.I realy think TV is the main problem with todays kids..think about it THE GREAT BABYSITTER IS TEACHING YOUR KIDS FAR MORE THAN A SCHOOL WILL.....think about that next time you see any thing that offends you on TV

After I plugged into the "matrix", or internet, I haven't been watching too much Television at all. The only thing I usually watch is movies on television and in theatres.

One thing I will say is that current television defines and shapes people's realities according to what the news wants and the major commercial news networks. Once I unplugged from the Television and plugged into the internet, it was like entering a different world. Internet, apart from television, was and is a whole different reality. A lot of what is available on the internet is not shown on television.

Also, there is hardly if at all any type of investigative inquiry on television, as compared to the power of the internet where many people come together to discuss, like at ATS.

I heard that if someone is really absorbed with whatever they are watching that they go into a 'catatonic' state. They're more relaxed than when they're actually sleeping. So Tv is definitely mind-numbing.

Anyways, I still watch a pretty good amount of TV. I'm aware that it's all fake and in no way reflects real life, though. All idiot shows on the goddammed thing. I have like 200 channels and somedays I still can't find anything to watch. So I either listen to music or hop on the net.

I watch a majority of TV when I'm trying to fall asleep. It distracts me enough where I can actually get to sleep... most of the time at night when I lay down thoughts just keep racing through my head. I end up scaring myself. lol So the numbing effect can be beneficial when used in the proper way.

I do notice that a lot of those TV junkies are freakin' braindead. Like my boyfriend, for instance. I just wanna punch him in the face sometimes. lol It's not his fault, though, he doesn't have access to the net in his house.

Thats something I think is rather dangerous to do.

When you leave the TV running when your trying to fall asleep, and indeed do fall asleep, all the crap thats broadcasted when you are asleep drenches right into your subcontious.

Its like those tapes you can listen to while asleep to stop smoking. They really do help you fight the need to smoke, because they work directly on the subcontious.
But with those, you usualy listen to the tapes while awake first, so you know whats on them.

When you leave the TV running while asleep, you never know whats broadcasted when you were sleeping, but you can be sure it has an effect on your subcontious.

So im guessing we shouldnt fall asleep listening to the radio for the exact same reason? I fall asleep to the radio sometimes, but i always set a sleep timer so it will shut of in 40 min, so it wont keep playing after i fall asleep.
