Yes it is interesting. Also interesting that Putin, this summer, held up a newly minted world currency unit that had been struck in Belgium.

It wasn't a unanimous decision, but yes, so he is.

And the first EU "minister of foreign affairs" is a woman, Catherine Ashton.

Is now the moment to pay my final respects to all those EU countries that are soon to be stripped of their sovereignty?

Seems to be headed that way.

misinformation, my friend.
its impossible for the new Eu president was chosen unanimously. if you had followed the debates all over the european media you wouldve known that extensive negotiations have been going on for weeks, between the big and the small states.
the verdict was finally announced on a round table conference between all the heads of states in brussels last saturday, where EVERY memberstate expressed its support for candidate Van Rompuy (who was pushed forward by germany and france).

Also, take a look at the Lisbon treaty and you will find it takes unanimous consensus between the heads of state to choose the president.

1: We Belgians are baffled by the stereotype about waffles, we don't eat a lot of waffles, and i have no clue where this stereotype comes from, you should know Belgium for it's beer, teh invention of the saxophone, Tin tin but not waffles

2. We Belgians won't have any power, the position of EU president is more a ceremonial one than an actual one.

I just want to know if the people even had a say in who become the next President.

I'm guessing no.

Yes, well, I was talking about the decision-making process going on behind the scenes..... Nothing clandestine, totally legit. And the opinions taking part in that decision-making process were far from unanimous, regarding Van Rompuy.

But it's been a long time; sorry for replying only now.
