Russia: Nuclear ship will fly humans to Mars...

MOSCOW – Russia should build a new nuclear-powered spaceship for prospective manned missions to Mars and other planets, the nation's space chief said Thursday.

Anatoly Perminov first proposed building the ship at a government meeting Wednesday but didn't explain its purpose. President Dmitry Medvedev backed the project and urged the government to find the money.

Amazingly other countries are now looking to explore further than what the US will claim is capable. Remember we have heard many things about radiation and financing that will not allow us to go to Mars, and now we have Russia pushing it.

Is this the beginning of another space race? Beginning of disclosure? Or another attempt by Medvedev to push a world currency and government run programs to stimulate economic growth?

xaaxxaax seems the soviets that u all think are so "back in tech" are planning to allready populating mars,and usa says theyr still sending probes couse its too hard.

There has been plenty of talk in Russia over the years how they should invest in nanotechnology etc, and nothing material happened. The government needs to prop up its failing image and hi-tech talk is one way to do that. I simply do not believe that Russia in its current shape can commit to anything like that, regardless of how viable the technology itself is.
