2.9 LD is hardly a collision course though.
If you drew it all to scale on a tennis court sized piece of paper, with a circle the width of a tennis court representing 2.9 LD, and Earth at the
center, Earth would be a dot smaller than a grain of pollen. Not really a very big target!
Even if there are a bunch of these smaller but still dangerous NEOs out there, it's
very easy for them to sail right by us since we are such a
small dot in such a colossal space.
Perhaps if it was 0.029 LD I might raise an eyebrow, but it's not really big enough to do serious damage on a global scale either so...
