My town, here in Wisconsin, US, two Mac' n Dons shut down a couple of years back. Were converted into Taverns by an entrepeneurial type. They are now very popular hangouts. I am sure someone their can convert them to something usefull. Plus, I am sure they can pick them up at rock bottom prices. Its alway nice to screw over any Mega Corp.

So, here is an opportunity for an Icelander to tell us what they eat when they really need fast food. Contribute this data and anyone that has read this thread will certainly consider it as long as it is obtainable in the rest of the world. Thanks!

McDonalds is the greatest invention known to man. I had a craving for the steak egg and cheese sandwich meal...came home...added mayo on top of that bad boy....mmmmmm. The best breakfast money can buy. Im a 28 year old dude and skinny as can be. Go Mcdonalds...

I used to be a big mickey d fan before I learned one thing, maybe 5 or 10 years ago.

One. Simple. Thing. And I haven't eaten there ever since.

Supposedly here is cow excerement in McDonalds meat. The company apparently has guidlines that specify the "acceptable amount" of said substance which, if this a true fact, is a non-zero number. For me, the only acceptable amount is ZERO.

Also, the USDFA has "grades" of meat...you know, like "Grade A beef" ? Supposedly McDonald's meat is one grade above dog food in that system...the lowest possible number acceptable for human consumption.

Think I'll stick with ground, home-cooked patties from the local butcher...

OK, You got my Goat! (Don't worry Goat, Mcdonalds has not yet found a good use for you , but adding sugar to your meat, you might start worrying.)

There is a diabetic emergency occuring in the US, and McDonalds really does not give a crap about that, as evident in what they sell. Forget fat, saturated or trans-fat, lets go for the candy == sugar.

In the meat? yes, but lets go for the bun. Loaded. You cannot buy a bun in a supermarket or bakery that has as much sugar as the buns that the "Big M" uses. This "master of all carbs", coupled with the fat content and added sugar they have in the meat is a death pill for those that have an increased intolerance for elevated blood sugar.... aka - Diabetes.

Eat all the Fat you want, let it drool down your lips, but the major problemo you have in this scenario, and the one that hurts the most, is that damned sugar intake, which puts your liver, pancrease and kidneys on an extended work schedule they may not be able to keep with , no matter what kind of physical shape you "think" you are in.

Don't discount the extra FAT, it is not good for anyone, but this food chain likes to load us up with sugar. It is pleasing to the palate, makes bad food taste, well--- acceptable, and will eventually be the cause of someone writing your name with a chisel in stone.

There ya go, have a field day you McDonald lovers......

**Immediately considers moving to Iceland**

This is great news, now if we can only manage to boycott their disgusting "food" in every other country too, we'll be doing the world a favour.

I HATE corporations in every respect. They're without morals and without any sense of responsibility. Their entire focus and drive is on profit, and they will do ANYTHING to gain that profit.

Well done Iceland!

Im with most other people on this,Mcdonalds should crash and burn along with burger king,KFC etc I know you Americans have quite a few more fast food places. People will probably say that folks should have a choice in where to eat...but these places are not fit for a civilized society. They are completely destroying peoples health, im especially thinking of children when it comes to that. And they are worsening the already terrible factory farming methods by their ever growing profits and expansion.... Im talking about factory farming quite alot lately it seems.

Too bad they didn't clearly see the truth about the foreign bankers who arrived on their fair isle a few years ago and left it a gutted financial corpse ...but human greed is a powerful thing, and easily harnessed. The McDonalds pullout is only a manifestation of this deeper evisceration of Iceland's economy.

I wish McDonalds would pull out of existence, a company that happily profits from spreading poison packaged in shiny boxes.

Seriously, that stuff is killing us, all fast food is bad, but Mcdonalds is by faaaarrrrr the worse. Then again, should we blame Mcdonalds, or these parents who don't even know how to use a Stove, and would rather buy their kids a Happy Meal.

It's ridiculous how little people know about food and nutrition, for the modern american parent, ..... transfering something from a can to a bowl and putting it in the microwave is consdered cooking.

In defense of McDonalds and it's original founder, it wasn't known how bad it was back then. It was just another hamburger joint that tried to create burgers in an assembly line fashion. They pioneered packaging or combo meals also.

I think at some point though it really went downhill, low quality meats and possibly addictive additives that make you eat more and get more fat are likely included. I would not be surprised, I don't trust many of these places. I think there should be a push for open disclosure on the chemical additives with full label requirements, even on fast food!

We are in a new era. We are forced into it with incredibly high obesity rates. There is an outcry of demand for healthier alternatives that taste as good as what other fast food chains are offering. There will likely be a new frontier that may end up eventually wiping McDonalds out one day!

I know the grease is bad for us by I love McDonald's french fires fresh out of the fryer where they're crispy, hot and salty. Dipped in McD tarter sauce is even better, but many McDonald's wont let you have it, even though they use it for their fillet fish.

Then wash them down the a McDonald's Coca Cola.

Everyone Knows McDonalds's Coca Cola is a different mix ratio than Coke anywhere else. It is much better than coke out of a can or coke from fountains at other restaurants.

I'm not surprised that McDonald's cant compete in some countries like Iceland. I remember they were pretty expensive in Amsterdam (double the price of the U.S) and the french fries were short, soft and greasy - just wrong.
