Heavily armed law enforcement teams will scatter across the Bay Area this weekend

Armed officers in full battle gear will be scattered throughout the Bay Area this weekend, rescuing hostages, fighting bank robbers and quelling terrorism at the Oakland Airport, Lawrence Livermore Laboratory, the NASA Ames Research Center and 22 other high profile sites.

There will be the sound of gunfire and blasts — all part of Urban Shield, one of the biggest domestic terrorism drills in the country. The $1 million, two-day event begins Saturday and will test the training of 27 crack teams from throughout the state, elsewhere in the country and the world.

I thought that this was an interesting story with the whole October 25 26 27 predictions that have been made. Maybe this is preparing for a real organized event in a few of months ala the September 11 war games that took place. Probaly not but interesting none the less. It would be neat to see this stuff in person but I'm no where near the west coast. Imangine not being aware that this was happending and you lived in the Bay Area.

This is excellent prove that none of this fear mongering madness has stopped since Obama got president.

Fearmongering on the part of ATS individuals, not on the part of the people doing the stuff in the article.
This sounds to me more like a competition amongst some of the elite law enforcement teams to see who is best at what they do. It's more in fun I'd say for bragging rights since this does consist of teams from California, around the Nation as well as some more elite foreign teams.
These are guys that have been doing it for a while so it's not really training per say, it's more of a test.
Bragging rights people, nothing more nothing less.

if i were part of a SWAT team i would live for ultra-real training exercises.

I won't be in the bay this weekend but am there quite often. It is interesting how there are often drills and practice going on around an attack...an wasn't there some flu pandemic drill going on in mexico around the time the swine flu was first reported? thought I heard that somewhere...anyways, we'll see what happens, hopefully nothing...

This is a multi-faceted urban warfare operation. I don't know what else to see it as. It bothers me that the police role has changed from public servant to para-military operative.

Maybe people should instill some fear into them. Gather up in rather large groups armed to teeth, with cameras and recorders of all kinds. That should show them.
