Snopes.com has a word for when real events mimic urban legends. I forget what that word is, but I wonder if this might qualify?

Who knows, if a witness was frightened enough, or had poor vision, or was intoxicated, I could even imagine this potentially leading to a new, French Moth-Man myth.
