Not exactly. It is fear of the unknown that drives them to convince themselves that they know. When in fact they truly don't.

That is simple. More religious people in the world than non-religious people. They believe what they believe right or wrong. They believe they know why. So they do not fear not knowing why.

But nonetheless they are convinced, hence no fear of the unknown.

Um if fear of the unknown is what drives them to it it does not negate that fear. Especially in light of the fact they don't truly know.

Ok guys I thank you for your answers. Very, very good. Looks like I have a lot of info to digest and think about. You guys are definitely philosophically minded and I look forward to further discussions and debates with you. I need to go to bed now. I will check back later and see if any more posts come in. Thanks again. You guys and gals were great.

To them they truly know. Most people do not fear the unknown. Man's greatest fear would have to be greater than 50% to qualify.

Peace and prosperity to all of you.

Being kicked in the family jewels. lol ok on a more serious note i think the thing that man fears most is the loss of control. Not that he has any but the illusion of control lets most people sleep at night.

Wherefore "why" and not "as;ldkjfhlajshlgiu"?

I got stuck with that lousy question "why" and am born naked, no t-shirt. What a rip-off!

Wye?

Yet you admit that fear of the unknown is what drove them there..... Am I right in assuming you believe you know the answer?

....

Well if these are the criteria by which you are going then the fear of loosing something/someone would be number one!!!!

Peace

To borrow words, our greatest fear is that we really are powerful beings.

The fear is ingrained from indoctrination into our culture. If we are powerful beings waking up, then all else we think or Believe would be false and that makes us feel fear over it.

Yes! Yes! That is it...The fear of being TRULY alone in the universe. No life elsewhere, nothing. No aliens, no God. Nobody coming to save us, help us, contact us, share information. Nothing out there!

That's scary stuff!

Not sure if this would be mans greatest fear but I guess my greatest fear would be for us humans to venture upwards far and towards the furthest stars to find we are totally alone which I know us being alone in this universe is highly unlikely but thats a big fear of mine. Could be for most of us too?? maybe...
