The universe was created five minutes ago.

Chew on that.

At this forum, we demand that you provide your *sources*! Links, names of books, whatever!

SOURCES! SOURCES!

Sorry no sources links only a nice debate.

I just want someone to prove me wrong on this.

Here's my challenge, prove to me that the universe did not begin five minutes ago.

Bob, this is not just inane chatter and much deeper than it appears at first sight, This goes much deeper than "French jokes."

Please, my challenge is out, PROVE ME WRONG.

XAOS

p.s. On afterthought, it is much like proving god nonexistant, but hey, alot of that goes on here too.

I think all the time-stamped posts here on this board alone disproves your theory (all those prior to 5 minutes ago.) Can't debate the nonsensical, Xaos.

and if that's not good enough then what MidnightDStroyer said is also my opinion.

the world was created in this state as it was, five minutes ago, everything you remember all that you see, was just created. There is no way to prove or disprove this, it's in fact just like creationism and God.

I often use this idea (the five minutes one) as something to think on, to realize the impermanence of everything. Its not something to get worked up over, just something to quietly contemplated.

i dunno? it's confusing. after a lot of thought, err not a lot but enough to know i'm lost. i say whatever. if it was wonderful. if not even worse but i'm still alive and i'm still going to burger king.

i could say it was yesterday i could say it was a bilion years ago. either way it'd piss off half of the people who worked soooo hard to figure out it all. i don't think it's that important. it could be. but is it?

You were made as you are now, seeming to be older, to suit your memories, but in fact no different than the earth in creationist theory: Seeming to be ancient, with lots of proof, but unprovable either way.

you can make something based on intelligence nonetheless, and defend it to be true even though everyone else agrees it is wrong! just because everyone else smiles and nods their heads doesn't mean that they know what they're talking about. but you can argue that and sway their decision. this is exactly what is needed to restore knowledgibility in our society of lost confusedness and dependance on technology based on old knowledge. use that technology to increase knowledge. not use that knowledge to increase technology. there is materialism and ignorance.

xaos, I just carbon dated myself? Does that count ?

do I have to restate myself?

look at my last post.

This thread was not made to be inflamatory, just as something to contemplate.

From now on I will not restate myself who say
"I'm older than 5 minutes"
"I'm thirty, does that count"
"I carbon dated myself"
"I cut myself open and counted the rings, heehee"

Here is my answer: Its something unprovable either way, just think about it, people who rejet it without thinking are too mired in illusion.

OK, think about this. If we can observe stars billions of light years away, obviously it takes longer than 5 minutes for the light to reach us.
Unless of course your saying that, the universe was created the way it is now with stars and photons etc already in place. A feat that is impossible.
Also what about memory, surely your not suggesting that all that we remember was created 5 minutes ago.

Though, I am now a little closer to understanding what you're saying, I think anyway.

Your older than you've ever been
And now your even older
And now your even older
And now your even older

Your older than you've ever been
And now your even older
And now your older still

Time is marching on!
And time is still....marching on!

This day will soon be at an end
And now it's even sooner
And now it's even sooner
And now it's even sooner

This day will soon be at an end
And now it's even sooner
And now it's sooner still

Your older than you've ever been
And now your even older
And now your even older
And now your even older

Your older than you've ever been
And now your even older
And now your older still

Xaos, this is not philosophy, - except on a "hey man what if ..." level of stoned philosophy.

Sure you can't be proven false, sure everything could have been created in the last 5 minutes. But so what?

Such drug induced ruminations are circular, and bear little resemblance to reality.

Its along the lines of "All the world is an illusion" philosophy, but you wouldn't walk out in front of an "illusory" truck hurtling down the motorway...

doesn't mean anything at all... and doesn't lead anywhere...

Unless of course your saying that, the universe was created the way it is now with stars and photons etc already in place. A feat that is impossible.

But why is it impossible?
How do you know where to set the boundary between possible/impossible?
Sure its impossible for you, and I to do... but we don't create anything, puny humans only remodel existing material in the universe...

I could accept your theory on *one* condition: That you're using your own specifications on how time is *measured*...IE: 1 minute for you equals a million or more years to everyone else's measurement of time.

Actually we are living in an illusion.

Time as we know it is an illusion, and all that we percieve is based on the passage of time. Therefore all we see is illusory.

Plus our minds show us only what we want to see, If we saw what was really there, it would boggle our minds.

Substance, color, everything is an illusion created by our minds.

Also, Mad scientist, it is impossible to have a god too.

Could you please explain why you class time as illusionary.

As for what is really out there you are right. Our minds and physical senses are only able to assimilate a fraction of what is in front of us. You should post a topic just on this.
