Nothing like early Sunday morning racism!

Your racism aside, it would be doubtful any aliens visiting the Earth would be able to appreciate any form of music, regardless of the skin-color of the people producing it. Music is a very human act, designed to channel and invoke human emotions. There is no other art or medium like it.

Hip hop has been turned into a tool for that purpose. dont blame the medium it started out like all good intentions as a way to communicate a message.

As for any aliens if they are benevolent they would pity us, and if there malevolent they will abuse our weakness. On a serious note we need to stop idolizing celebs as if the sun shines out of their A..

But lets be real nobody want to hear this. we have become too lazy and want the quick fix drive through instant microwave solution. not going to happen and as such we are screwed. Thats why the bad guys will always win, they want it more than we do.

Extremely well put, TiM3LoRd. I whole-heartedly agree.

I wouldn't bash any form of Art , ( IMO if you can call hip hop art??) but anyway I think the headline should have read
"Aliens must think human culture is void of any value", now with that I can agree.

There is more wrong with Human culture than there is right, and it looks like that if you do wrong then you get rewarded for it more than hard working and being honest and compassionate.
Look at the prison terms people are getting for major crimes, murder and huge monetary theft are seemingly getting off lighter than someone hacking into Nasa looking for UFO's. Or a hit and run car death , the driver responsible is given a £300 fine or some other nonsensical stupidly short prison sentance if any.
Where as some responsible for deaths of thousands can remain at large lording it up (GWB IMO - under the guise of war on terror , protecting the American way of life which is now disappearing fast) or robbing billions of dollars from the citizenry and get a fine and still get to keep their ill gotten gains but simply transferring ownership to another member of their families - Madoff anyone?.

No wonder the aliens don't want to make genuine contact with us as a race, but only with a select few.

I think we should oust ALL leaders and then start over, but unfortunately power corrupts in any form, we are too stupid, ignorant and arrogant to learn from our past mistakes and are doomed to repeat them over and over .

Well, when it comes to music, exactly what is the rest of the world offering?

By the way, how long ago did the hip hop revolution occur? Seems like old news. Same way with Grunge. As far as music is concerned, America has had a pretty good run so far, like Austria in the classical era. Hopefully we have a new wave again soon.

It's not like Beethoven and Mozart didn't let their egos get away from them back in the day.

Hey, we can't expect all of the musical geniuses to demonstrate the amazing humility of Louis Armstrong, who was, in my opinion, the greatest musical talent of the twentieth century.

No you didn't and yes they are mate, we all just got older and us old fogey's think that anything with a beat of 1 second or less is madness made audible. And as for RAP the only thing missing is a 'C' in front of it the word .

I really don't know how anyone could say that music and / or RAP in particular it to blame for the state of Humanity, I'd personally blame TV myself and all the poop they're showing , such as the shows featuring Gangsta lifestyles, quick money fast off the backs of others, Drugs and guns and all that is more to blame than the music IMO.
The music doesn't help but is not totally to blame, maybe the rappers needs to focus onother human conditions other than 'poppin a cap in a ho cops ass 'or something?
God I'm getting to old, mind you I'm an 80's man myself, so no qualms about my taste in music either .

Seriously, you know that this horrible form of music represents about 90% of what American popular culture prefers.

When they do finally come out of their closet, what will they think of us all based on this and other recreational activities that the masses partake in?

[edit on 11-10-2009 by Just Cause]

It may be horrible to some but preferable to many. Just because some people grow out of it, it does not necessarily mean that it represents a 'void of American culture'. Same could be said for the so called Rock music which is far more represented by varied group of ages in American and world communities.

Aside further to this topic; should any alien race attempt to judge another nation, I am certain that by a logical comparison it would not be examined using music but instead it may be composed of superiority in the world economical and technological stand point of views.

If it is true that the so called aliens follows us in the space during our vast space missions conducted by the Americans and Russians. Now how many American and Russian politicians in the parliament speak so fondly and claim the essence of the so called HIP-HOP or RAP culture?

I am not even sure if music should be mixed with the topic of aliens and UFO's, it just smells like a bad cocktail.

It's all tied together these days; there's never been quite the symbiosis between form of media and another that there is these days. By default, music comes with one or more videos these days as well as associated artwork and promotional material; often airing in cinemas as well as endless rotation on the small screen on an incredible amount of television channels never mind You Tube and so on. When I was growing up in the 1970s and 1980s I'd wait months in between seeing music I liked being shown on television. Then you have screen-based media using (modern) music more and more: even the news these days is accompanied by trancey-ambient music. Now you also have relatively new forms of media, such as games, where the two meet in the middle.

It's neither music, nor TV, nor games: the reality is that, now, it's all of it.

not once did anyone or even myself mention anything related to racism. The fact of the matter is that probably 90% of the junk on the airwaves and broadcast is this sort of music. Every color, race and creed of mankind in general listens to this music and thus since there is so much of it being broadcast for public and alien reception and since so many people in the general public mimic the lifestyle and its manorisms, IT IS A REPRESENTATIVE CROSS SECTION OF MANKIND!

I'm not trying to be a racist, I'm trying to state the obvious that it makes the mean majority of humans look like idiots and less intelligent than the small majority that live any other sort of way.

What about people like Nancy Grace, Jon and Kate and Octomom?

I could go on and on but white people have done plenty to screw up American culture.

The blame is shared across the spectrum.

What we need to do as Americans is start over and teach our kids things that they should know, as opposed to consumerist culture bull#.

I am speaking of the human condition right now in what alien races can gather being broadcast.

Think about us, looking down at an inferior species. What is the first thing we look at? We don't go and look and compare territorial governments. At its most basic level usually the first thing you would look at is COMMUNICATION. Examining how an inferior species communicates with eachother and what they vocally, aurally or visually "broadcast" to eachother whether it be ants or whales.

Right now we broadcast Hip-hop and these hip-hop artists are the representatives of mankind whether we intend them to be or not. No one said Rap, no one said anything about anything by any one race of people. Just hip-hop

what does white or black or anything like that have to do with any of this? Yea, all those you mentioned are white whackjobs and nutballs but the majority of how people act and what they listen to and how it reflects on the world does not come out of Nancy Grace's piehole, it comes from what pop-culture like Britney Spears or Miley Cyrus or dare I say it again, Kanye believe, do and say.

lol.

Russia's done much worse than America my friend. Just so you know.

And the aliens are a joke. Karmic understand? Karma is just something humans dreamed up, much like sin, to give them the illusion of control.

Someone in the thread tried to blame the ills of this country on Kanye West. I was trying to point out to them that the blame doesn't rest on any particular race.

It's a cultural issue.

But I can clearly see that there are plenty of racists on ATS. Hence my reply.

Germany had great culture-Beethoven-Bach-zeppelins-great engineers-but it all went to
hell when the Nazis took over. Therefore culture as a measurement is off the mark.

Advanced Aliens measure a culture by it's aptitude for compassion.
And Earth is below kindergarten level in this area.
Earthlings are mental babies in diapers to a truly advanced alien.
Spending billions on nuclear weapons and crap when half the world starves.
This can only be seen as severely demented behavior of a retard civilization.

Let's say, for argument's sake, that aliens are real and they're aware of our existence. Being an educated person, and putting myself in their obvious superior reality, they probably see us as an impediment to establishing themselves on earth. There is nothing desirable about us. Humans are sheep whose behavior is mostly controlled by "elected" officials or dictators. These "elected" officials and dictators want only to control and lives mean nothing to them, hence wars.

I'm surprised we haven't been wiped out and this could possibly be due to not all humans being of equal minds to the "elected" officials and dictators. But humans are sheep anyway, worthless.

Yet, UFOs continue their blatant existence keeping us in constant wonder. But one of these days, "they" may come down and "serve" us!

I agree 100%
saving for that, what sort of alien race would be waiting around for disclosure? When and if that does happen, are these aliens just here to take advantage of "young retards" known as earthlings?

on the otherhand, how do humankind's individual/personal behaviors compound onto the immoral destructive decisions made by our governments you mentioned?

Though it has reached across cultures and nearly every nation on Earth has embraced hip-hop, with their own regional styles, in America hip-hop is still a predominately African-American art-form. It was born out of economic depression and cultural oppression in the black community of New York in the 1970s. Hip Hop was a response to those social conditions, it gave young African-Americans a voice to these problems. The reason Hip Hop has spread so fast, so far and been integrated into so the culture of so many countries is because it speaks to the struggle that all the oppressed, rejected and disenfranchised knows and gives them that same voice.

I'm sure your next response will tell us how it glorifies and promotes violence and crime. The notion that hip-hop causes crime or violence is completely false. Those problems are problems formed of poverty and depression; if hip-hop never existed these problems would still be there. Hip-hop doesn't influence the street, the street influences hip-hop. And while yes, hip-hop does romanticize crime and violence, this is no different than any other form of music (except for the most generic, inoffensive bubblegum music). For instance, have you ever heard of Murder Ballads? Honky Tonk? The Blues? Outlaw Country? Rock and Roll? Punk? Metal?

If you are not being racist then you are being elitist. You are revolted by hip-hop because it is not how you live. Hip-hop is an inherently subversive and you feel threatened by it.

Please, tell us the obvious. What about it makes people look like idiots or less intelligent. Listen to Twelb Kwali or Mos Def, listen to mainstream artists like Jay-Z. Actually listen and tell us if they are idiots. They are idiots all the way to the bank.

Just Cause, I'd like to know what your musical tastes are.
