Where I live they're going to set up cat traps, because we have a stray problem. That's all fine and well except for what they said they're going to do with the strays, they said "The humane society won't take them so we're taking them out to a field and have a cat shooting party"! Not only that, but they even stated they will trap certain tenant's cats because they "Don't like that person". This is Animal Cruelty beyond words and spitefullness like I have never seen in my entire life! I wrote a complaint to the local humane society and hope these A*HOLES get arrested and stuck in JAIL all weekend!!!! I will be laughing MY big WHITE A** OFF AT THEM TOO!!! Losers, these are the people that drink Beer all day, snort coke and smoke pot and think this governmnt's doing a geat job, because they're so drunk and stoned all the time they have made themselves retards!:shk:

I do sympathize with you on this one. However, stray cats carry disease and rabies. They get into fights with other cats and dogs that are not strays. It is best to keep cats indoors, or have an enclosed outdoor area for them.

Contact the Humane Society in your area and tell them of the plan. Also, get a bunch of friends together and disable the traps, or scare the kitties away.

I do like the idea of catching strays and spaying or neutering them to stop the population from exploding.

Yes that is normally the case, however there is a humanitarian here in the neighborhood who has spayed/nuetered and had shots for these strays but she simply can't keep them and she feeds them also. And once they get old and die, then there will not be any more, unless people from outside the neighborhood dump them which I've seen that done, but if they are caught they can be penalized however, catching them is the difficult task. As they usually tear off in their vehicle before you can even catch the tag number!

Hubby and I did this a few years ago. Neighbors down the street just let the cat population explode so we rented live traps (about $5 / week to rent - very reasonable) took them to the vet, had them spayed, and returned a few of them. We found homes for the others.

We actually never told the family because we offered help in person and they refused. They told us they didn't care about the cats, but didn't want us to come on their property to catch them. We let it go on for a while, but the cats started getting hit by cars and getting in fights with local dogs and we knew we had to something.

Oddly, the family never seemed to notice that like 1/2 their cats were gone. That's love for you. :shk:

And who exactly is doing this?

However, that still won't justify killing them in a disrespectful manner.

If it's absolutely necessary to dispose them, then do so, in the most painless manner, hopefully with a prayer or a word of respect, not to turn the whole thing into a fun activity.

I only made that statement to show some feral cats have disease and can cause problems. That does not mean I would like to see all of the cats killed. As you can see with my avatar, I am a cat lover.

There are ways to deal with this problem other than killing the cats as shown by the other respondents.

It is unfortunate, but some of the diseased ones may need to be put down humanely.

That is a wonderful and expensive thing you did (neutering and spaying add up in costs). It is good people like you and your husband who keep my faith in humanity.

It is a shame those neighbors did that to those poor animals.

Spaying and neutering plus shots can also be expensive. Maybe there is a way to raise money through the local animal shelter to get those animals fixed and find homes for the tame ones.

Unfortunately, they recently went out and got more cats. Unfixed cats. Ugh. Some people are so stupid and thoughtless. :bash:

Apparently "fixing the problem" doesn't always fix the problem.

As much as I love my animals, every once in a while I agree with PETAs belief that humans shouldn't have pets. I love mine and can't live without them, but so many suffer at the hands of crappy owners. God it sickens me how we treat animals....

If they shoot the cats in the head i dont see the problem with this, since that is painless.

It is the owners who allowed the cats to become feral or stray who are the real problem, there would be no stray cats to kill if it wernt for people who buy cats and let them roam free to breed with other cats and kill native animals.

There should be the same laws regarding cats as dogs, keep them locked up or on a leash.

Like i said, the owners are to blame for letting their cats run free.

Cat owners that let their cats roam free clearly dont care for the possums and birds that cats kill (maybe their not as cute as cats eh?)
