Yes let’s talk about peace. Obama took the time to go to Kenya and rallied for his supposed ‘cousin’ Odinga, when he was senator, probably paid for by the taxpayer. The only words he could summon then were that Kenya was ripe for ‘change’…seems that is all he can say. When Odinga, (who wanted Shariah law instituted in every single district regardless that most were Christian, and a recognition of Islam as the ‘only true religion‘) lost, his supporters went berserk committing genocide, raping and killing everyone, including burning down a church full of women and children. So, yes, this man deserves this money and this accolade. If he wasn’t a narcissist he would still be scrubbing the blood off his hands and his soul.
Peace…yes he is the man of peace…mmm mmm mmm

And you answer with this?

see... there yuh go...back on track now...that apple cart almost tipped over, but you republicans ARE COMING THROUGH!!! almost lost it for a second there, with thoughts that maybe... maybe obama is doing something right.....AAAAHHHH!!!! MUST GET THAT OUT OF MY HEAD!!...whew!! that was close.

If you are going to answer, at least address the post in question. The man has blood on his hands yet is awarded the peace prize. Explain how that is doing something right.

Dang two legit threads.

Anyway, here's my take - The world has truly "jumped the shark".

I do agree with you there kosmic, they diid rush into this. Yes Bush was voted out, america is trying to find the right path again from years of a misguided one.... but this is premature of an award. But he won the award, kudos... too soon in my opinion, but congrats nevertheless.

I'd rather give them a REAL hero.
Honoring a shell of a man is pretty pathetic.
I'm sure there are people out there who really deserve recognition.

205 Nobel Peace Prize Names Submitted for 2009
Thialand News

I wonder if there were people in that bunch who actually deserved it.
Or were they all just poltiical statements like the Obama nomination.

I never knew you could get a Noble Prize for something you plan to do.

I know right?

The supposed LCROSS mission success, even though 3/4 of the objectives completely failed. You know, *cough* the dust plume *cough* that didn't happen.

That's not why though, but it's certainly interesting headline news for one day. US launches a rocket into the moon and Obama receives the Nobel Peace Prize.

I Obama's 'prize' better belongs among the list of Ig Nobels this years.

The economics prize went to a bunch of Icelandic bankers who bankrupted their country.

The public-health prize went to a bra that doubles as a gas mask.

The research prize went to some guy who studied which being broken over skull is worse a full beer bottle or an empty one.

Physics prize went to center of gravity keeping pregnant women from tipping over.

Veterinary prize went to a woman who found that cows with names give more milk than anonymous cows.

NS Best of the Ig Nobel 2009

EDIT FOR GROSS STUPIDITY (Never post before coffee
My apologies.)

You know people keep talking about all of this "hope and change." Well, that means nothing when all it is is talk. How long are they going to use that..."he promotes hope and change" line. Saying and doing are 2 completely different things and once there is no hope and change, then it is dissapointment. That is what obama is, a dissapointment! He has not helped any situation across the world. He has "talked" to people and has accomplished NOTHING! He has done nothing but put down the nation that he is the President of. In my opinion he has nothing but ill will against America and it shows in his speeches and his actions! He has yet to accomplish anything world wide or here in the US. He constantly lies to the American people and thinks that his supporters are stupid and his "hope and change" line will keep people behind him forever. Well, people are starting to see how he is and he is losing support quickly! Hope and change? Yeah okay, putting America trillions of dollars in debt is hope and change? The unemployment rate almost in double didgets is hope and change? Talks about a "new" stimulus package is hope and change? Has he not spent enough money and caused the American people enough taxed dollars? His idea of hope and change is running this country into the ground and turning into a government run COMMUNIST & SOCIALIST nation. He can take that "hope and change" and shove it you know where!

I'll post my response from the other thread here as well.

This is ridiculous.

Does the irony of the Nobel Peace Prize being awarded to the president of a country who is engaged in two major wars not make you laugh. Or cry maybe.

Gore winning a Nobel Prize was a joke. This is just plain absurd.

nobelprize.org...

candidates are selected in February
Candidates achievements are reviewed in March
Candidates are selected in October
Prizes are awarded in December

Which means that Obama was nominated in Feb and "evaluated" in March, one month into his presidency.

Actually being the first black President of the U.S. and winning the Nobel Prize to top it off is quite an achievement for one single man.

He`s not as pathetic as you guys say he is.

Hey Jimmy, can you answer my question from the last page? I am sure you just didn't read it from so many posts. But please go read what I wrote and respond. Thanks.

uhmm yes... i did read it, and no i'm not going to tell you...your an adult now, do your own legwork...besides, both of us already know, it would turn into dueling "quotes" . i already know where you stand, and i'm sure that nothing i said would change your mind. there is plenty of info out there if you look.

I have looked Jimmy. I pay attention each and everyday, and read and watch as many sources as I can, not just the right. I addressed everything I could think of that would mentioned. So I am wondering if I missed something. Sincerely, if someone can tell me of his accomplishments in peace that warrant this prize, I will admit it. I want him to be a great President. I don't agree with much that he is doing but I really do root for him to do great things. So Jimmy can you please give me some examples of what he has accomplished?

There is a theory that its not about what he has done, but a push for what he should do...sort of like a international hint hint, go the route of peace thing.

I like Obama...supporter, but even I am in a wtf sort of attitude about this...he hasn't earned this yet, he has done nothing to further peace in areas we are at war with.

So...my vote is its a message more than a merit

- Just being POTUS isn't reason to get a Nobel Prize.

- So he's half black. So what? Again - not a reason to get a Nobel Prize.

- He did nothing to get the Prize. There is no 'achievement' in getting it.

He`s not as pathetic as you guys say he is.

You are welcome to that opinion.
I'll stick with mine.

He's a corrupt liar of a politician and a racist with nafarious underworld connections. I say that's pathetic.

I don't think he is pathetic.

However, I think the circumstances are absurd and - furthermore - and insult to intelligent people everywhere - The intelligent people who have actually done something deserving of a recognition like the Nobel Peace Prize and the intelligent people who can plainly see how contrived and hollow this year's award is.

if being voted in for skin color = peace prize, shouldnt the voters get the prize verses the person they voted for?

He is 10 months into a term in which he has completed nothing.

I think that's where so many are making an assumption that isn't relevant. This prize is not being awarded to him for what he has done as president and may have been awarded to him even if he lost the election. This isn't a presidential award. And that's not what the committee is looking at. If we look at this from the world's viewpoint instead of the US (or ATS's) viewpoint, it's clear that they awarded it for his EFFORTS, WILLINGNESS and GOALS. These are all future accomplishments. Yes, it's hope. It's all about hope. It's gotten a bad rap around here, but some of us (and apparently a lot of the world outside the borders of the US and ATS) have a good handle on it.
Hope isn't a bad thing as so many would have us think.

The new president was hailed for his willingness to reach out to the Islamic world, his commitment to curtailing the spread of nuclear weapons and his goal of bringing the Israelis and Palestinians into serious, fruitful negotiations.

you slobbering, lathered-up, republican obama haters, were so intent on bashing and trashing the president, that you failed to notice the impact he has had in the dealings with other countries governments.

since most of you get your information from right-wing media, you would be surprised. yeah...geez...he's actually impressed people around the world!!
hey, i know, get your nose out of hannity's ass, and do some research were it shows what obama has done in regards to american diplomacy around the world.

i think this is great for america...but of course, the right-wingers immediately dismiss it as some joke...

You know, this is the forst news I heard this morning on the radio. It made me a little queasy. Now that I've read your post however, I actually threw up a little bit in my mouth.
