Do you remember the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 (welfare reform act)? Do you know what happened to those who were affected by the act? Did they all get jobs? Are they all now productive citizens? I suggest that neither case is true.

Many (not all) people have opted to receive what are called “crazy checks.” “Crazy check” is slang for Social Security Disability benefits.

Instead of going to work, some parents are having their children declared mentally disabled. Doing so provides the parent with a source of income to replace that which was lost via welfare reform. (This migration from the dole to Social Security has in effect transformed the Social Security system into the new welfare system.)

There are several sites you can google with info. about this. I didn't learn about it on google though, my sister who is a middle school teacher told me about this years ago; she teaches in a low income area school and there are several cases of families where every child has been labeled mentally challenged and their momma gets a check for them. We're talking families with 3-4 kids getting checks. There are so many kids on this system in her school that two state social workers actually office out directly at the school. It's a travesty, another injustice of our horrible government-gone-to-hell. This is one reason I sometimes secretly wish the economy would fail and the government would collapse, and be started over from scratch. But I don't want to see people suffer.

I have to assume you mean a mental disability check, as in a Section - 8.

There is a vast difference is disabilities when it comes to Government free rides.

I wish I could do an in depth War on Drugs thread without druggies hopping on it and getting it shut down, but I will not bother because too many people would think I am promoting drug use, when I am not, I detest drugs, but I detest financial scam just as much.

I would not expect you to sacrifice your standards, but the people who would put you in office might.

I can say that they would not want me in office because I just cannot be bought and I would not bend to the pressures of lobbying groups and special interest groups that try to buy politicians as my ethics, morals, and beliefs are far too strong to be given up just for money.

I was offered many times the fast path to power and each time I turned it down.

I am flexible in how I get somewhere, politically, or otherwise, but on certain things I will not bend, and as well I will not break from.

When my manager at the hospital I worked at as a Security Officer asked me to find a woman who was reported to have been sleeping on the job, or "find" her sleeping on the job, I did just enough to satisfy the manager that I had tried to find her sleeping without "finding" her sleeping.

In other words it was corroborate through catching her sleeping, or falsify Federal Government documents, because hospitals fall under F.E.M.A. that this woman had been sleeping, just to keep the Administration from having to pay a thirty year veteran another pay raise due to her contract being up for renewal and as she was union protected as well, they essentially asked me to become a financial assassin.
