Great pictures and a great site, I used to go and look around quite a lot.

There are some sad pictures on there of the Russian Space Shuttle sitting in a scrap yard about to be scrapped, and a cockpit outside a hospital.

Other things I find fascinating on there, abandoned Military bases, the Submarine base pictures are incredible, and the abandoned tanks and helicopters that where used at Chenobyl.

The pictures of WW2 in colour always open my eyes, helps you see it in a different light, reminds me of when my son years ago asking me questions about the early 20th century, I remember asking him what he wanted to know, and he said it must have been hard living in black and white and walking around so fast, he actually believed the old early black and white movies where a real depiction of life, I felt so amused and sad at the same time.

Before colour film became common sometimes black and white photos were 'colourised' by hand tiniting the negatives - a very skillfull job. However, I think the colours and saturations are pretty consistent with what I have seen of other photos from the era. Remember colour photography was still pretty new then, and the chemicals used then weren't as refined as the ones used now - look at magazines from as late as the 60s and you still see some of the same issues in saturation and hue.

Some great photos. Though I do wonder how many of those shown survived the war...
