EDITORIAL: At the president's pleasure

'Safe school czar' encouraged child sex with an older man

A teacher was told by a 15-year-old high school sophomore that he was having homosexual sex with an "older man." At the very least, statutory rape occurred. Fox News reported that the teacher violated a state law requiring that he report the abuse. That former teacher, Kevin Jennings, is President Obama's "safe school czar." It's getting hard to keep track of all of this president's problematic appointments. Clearly, the process for vetting White House employees has broken down.

In this one case in which Mr. Jennings had a real chance to protect a young boy from a sexual predator, he not only failed to do what the law required but actually encouraged the relationship.

According to Mr. Jennings' own description in a new audiotape discovered by Fox News, the 15-year-old boy met the "older man" in a "bus station bathroom" and was taken to the older man's home that night. When some details about the case became public, Mr. Jennings threatened to sue another teacher who called his failure to report the statutory rape "unethical." Mr. Jennings' defenders asserted that there was no evidence that he was aware the student had sex with the older man.

However, the new audiotape contradicts this claim. In 2000, Mr. Jennings gave a talk to the Iowa chapter of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, an advocacy group that promotes homosexuality in schools. On the tape, Mr. Jennings recollected that he told the student to make sure "to use a condom" when he was with the older man. That he actively encouraged the relationship is reinforced by Mr. Jennings' own description in his 1994 book, "One Teacher in 10." In that account, the teacher boasts how he allayed the student's concerns about the relationship to such a degree that the 15-year-old "left my office with a smile on his face that I would see every time I saw him on the campus for the next two years, until he graduated."

A new czar that condones statuatory rape. Why is this not surprising? Frankly, there's nothing Obama can do that will elicit much surprise from me now. We have criminals with the president's ear that range from tax evaders to someone who fails to report the statutory rape of a minor.

transcript of audio below

And I said, “Brewster, what are you doing in there asleep?” And he said, “Well, I’m tired.” And I said, “Well we all are tired and we all got to school today.” And he said, “Well I was out late last night.” And I said, “What were you doing out late on a school night.” And he said, “Well, I was in Boston…” Boston was about 45 minutes from Concord. So I said, “What were you doing in Boston on a school night Brewster?” He got very quiet, and he finally looked at me and said, “Well I met someone in the bus station bathroom and I went home with him.” High school sophomore, 15 years old. That was the only way he knew how to meet gay people. I was a closeted gay teacher, 24 years old, didn’t know what to say. Knew I should say something quickly so I finally said, “My best friend had just died of AIDS the week before.” I looked at Brewster and said, “You know, I hope you knew to use a condom.” He said to me something I will never forget, He said “Why should I, my life isn’t worth saving anyway.”

Where's the MSM on this story???

I had to add, in fairness, that the transcript doesn't read that Jennings actually encouraged the twosome, but the fact remains that he didn't report it and apparently didn't discourage it either.

Ew.

I'll S&F ya, but then I'm going to have to wash.

Well, Obama DID say to judge him by the people he surrounds himself with.

Yes, he did say to judge him by the people he surrounds himself with. He's making it exceptionally hard to find anything to like about him with the company he keeps.

In all honesty, I try to find something to give him kudos on, but when you bring as many wolves into the fold as he has, (not to mention the policies they're all backing for him and with him) I just can't seem to do it.

. Either Obama's vetting process simply doesn't work or he does this purposely for a reason. What could it be?

Good question, and one I've been asking myself more and more. He's plainly more radical than anyone first thought. I'm still scratching my head though. Why would you purposely surround yourself with people of this nature if you wanted to be re-elected?

This is supposition of the highest order, but maybe he doesn't care whether or not he's re-elected or he isn't worried about there being another election.

I guess people are too busy watching "Dancing With The Stars" to pay mind to the flotsam that are wiping their feet off on the welcome mat to the White House at the behest of Obama.

Surely apathy doesn't abound to the extent that this doesn't raise any eyebrows. Or maybe it's a bit of overload, considering that he's one, in a long line of many, that dabble in the darker side of life that Obama has welcomed with open arms.

Dancing with the stars is on?

Gotta go!

Obama and co. are just showing their true colours is all. Transparency indeed!

I think he must be doing it on purpose. Surely No One's 'vetting process' could be so inept....right? I mean, even just randomly selecting people for cabinet positions wouldn't result in such abysmal choices....right?

I don't think he's even using a vetting process. There's nothing random about the people he's choosing. I wish there were because, well...the alternative is awfully scary.

Keep me posted on Donnie. I forgot he was going to be on the show.

I guess I just can't get comfortable with his true colors. They're making me very uneasy.

No excuse for this, I doubt that his job is so demanding that he didn't have the time.

None of these people (dems and repubs alike) seem to be able to manage even the simple tasks. Grrrr

Nope, no excuse for it, but I bet they'll have one handy if this story gains any traction. I don't think it comes down to managing it though. I think he (Obama) knows exactly what he's doing. I just wish I could figure it out.

Bringing someone in for the sake of diversity I can understand, to a degree. Bringing someone in that aided a pedophile, I cannot.

What in the hell?
Encouraging or promoting ANY kind of sex in schools is contributing to the delinquency of a minor, period, and these people should be arrested. Imagine the fall out of someone going around schools encouraging heterosexual intercourse, but it's perfectly ok to go around encouraging homosexuality? These people have no business going around to schools promoting sexual anything to kids. This country really is all to hell man.

Sorry, I wasn't watching Dancing with the stars. I was watching Heroes and then MNF when you posted this thread.

I don't understand how these guys get by the vetting process, I'm beginning to doubt there is one.

These guys are probably friends of friends of a cousins friend.

Worse case scenerio is Obama is really that inept at picking people for his administration.

Technically, he committed a crime by not reporting the crime, but he won't be arrested. He might go the way of Van Jones, but that'll be all.

As far as promoting homosexuality in schools? Not many people in positions of power look at that as an offense of any sort. Too many people worried about being PC.

Bringing someone in for the sake if diversity, I can NOT understand. All persons should be treated equal, Obama should know this better than anyone.

As for bringing in people and surrounding yourself with people who don't know what they're doing, Bush didn't do any better with, for example FEMA director Mike Brown (hurricane Katrina.) The guy had less experience than I when it came to being qualified for that job.

Like I said, neither party can manage even simple tasks and in this case the "school czar" should have his butt booted at the very least.

Take a look at all that has come out about this administration that was not what was promised. Take a look at everything that has leaked out about appointments. Then I want you to ask yourself "What is it that we do NOT know YET?" Imagine what is still waiting to be discovered.

President Obama is like a box of chocolates.........................nasty, rotten, rancid chocolates.

I should have been more clear. I meant diversity as in race. Not sexual orientation or practices.

I won't get into the Bush vs. Obama thing except to say that Bush didn't pick over the top characters to surround himself with.

Agreed that the SAFE school czar should be booted. Oh the irony.

"What is it that we do NOT know YET?"

I have asked myself that question many times. It worries me what the answer might be.
