Why not? It's a nice paycheck, full benefits, lots of entitlements when you get out, veterans preference on job applications, free college, VA home loans, etc. Why wouldn't you join?

Simple, and to the point....nice. You can forget the flag-waving reasons even....(and you forgot medical benefits)

I know a few people who are just in the reserves, and they racked up the dough during the wars...while then coming back to a nice paying job... Only reason I didn't join was a few minor health reasons (and my colorblindness keeping me from the jobs I would want to do and qualify for)...

The medical benefits I included in the "full benefits" statement. If I listed everything, I would have to start a whole new thread.

Where do you people work exactly? The military is great for a single guy, and REALLY great for single guys who enter fake marriages for housing allowances, but I still never thought much of the pay. When I joined the Corps I walked away from $28/hour with lots of overtime, decent insurance, a vacation fund, and a retirement fund. I may as well have been doing it for free. As a matter of fact though, I would do it for free if I could undo my back injury, my page 11s, and my RF-4 code.

Since Canada is largely dependent on US armed forces to protect it from invasion, Canadians can have the luxury of taking a more lax and socialistic attitude in defense.

So what would happen if big brother was not their to protect the maple leaf land?
