I still don't understand why Obama even wasted our tax dollars discussing this "e" moment.
It's worthless entertainment that has nothing to do with anything that really matters.
But since he had to open his mouth, why isn't Obama running with this?
He could make an attempt to lower the national debt by simply asking everyone who thinks Kanye is JA to send in a dollar, or two.

You're talking about it...he isn't allowed? The key is that it was an aside...off the record...not to go out as anything 'Presidential'

You slag him cuz he did...you slag him because he didn't pursue it and make it an issue...'wasting taxpayer's dollars' by chatting off-mike you called it.

You know, you can't complain about both and still retain your own credibility.

About time we had a western leader that could speak in no stupid terms.

Actually, he spoke in incredibly stupid terms. Any President that watches the MTV video awards as a form of entertainment is immature and has absolutely no taste at all. Doesn't say much for Mr. "O"-word at all. Doesn't surprise me though. Oh yeah, and MTV sucks, they "jumped the shark" when they started playing hiphop/rap trash.

the right wingers have no choice but to side with
their loathed rap artist Kanye! i betcha thats what they're gonna do.
they'd rather side with their hated genre of music and people than Obama.
waiting for the results.....

So I found audio of this moment, feel free to put the link to it on the very first part of the thread with an edit if you want.

Audio: Barack Obama calls Kanye West a Jackass

It's funny because he also jokes about the fly incident at the end. Once of the speakers in the background calls him a ninja, haha.

He told the truth, but being President there are some things you shouldn't say in public.

Off the record or not, he shouldn't have said this in the company of reporters.

Give it a rest, you must be a total wimp if this offended you.

This isn't the first time Kanye did something like this. Poor Taylor got her moment taken away from her. Beyonce was nice enough to let her finish having her moment.

Obama has just shot up in my estimations to the top of my "favourite persons" list.

Kanye is a jackass. Plain and simple. He moans, he whines, he bitches, he cries. Like a little child who didn't get what he wants. I detest the man-child.

Such a jackass.

Go Obama.

Going back to Kanye's jibe at Bush:

George Bush doesn't care about black people.

Well Kanye, it appears that even black people don't like you. Maybe it's that bad attitude you have, you joke.

So now what the President said is getting backlash?! WTF! So what! He said something most the world was thinking. Its his personal opinion and he was having a conversation with another person and others overheard. Is it so bad that he said what he felt?! NO! Kayne is an ass!

NEW YORK – President Barack Obama's candid thoughts about Kanye West are provoking a debate over standards of journalism in the Twitter age.

news.yahoo.com...

Theres more in the link........

Kayne is getting exactly what he wanted....he is all over the tabloids!

I didn't watch it...I heard about it and started this thread. You carry on as if viewing the programme would have been beneath you. Yet, you heard about it.

Do you think that Obama might have heard about it without actually having watched the show?

Did, in fact, a reporter mention it to him?

Is this, perhaps, just another mindless knee-jerk shot at your Prez because you perceive an opening?

No Mr John, I slag him because he should have said he is not going to address the silly question. He is not getting paid to address issues pertaining to entertainment.

Maybe we should call him Prez Hilton?

Only after he called West a "jackass" did he finally realize he was having a SouthWest Airlines moment, as in "wanna get away?"

He never should have acknowledged the question and he should have said at the onset what he ends up saying towards the end:
"cut the President some slack, I've got a lot of other stuff on my plate."

Then they bring up the "fly/PETA" incident.

This clearly shows he was not in control of the situation.

To be honest it shows that Obama has no judgement whatsoever, as well as no self control, or bearing worthy of his position.
I blame it on too much coc aine use.
Still, just remember while you all whoop cos the prez said something rude...that this fool has his finger on the button.

I don't like Obama, but I'm behind him 100% on this. Kanye is a jackass, and that's just the nicest thing that can be said about him. I'd say worse, but this is a family forum.

I call nonsense on both counts. There is always healthy banter between politicians and the press...theirs is a symbiotic relationship. Show me another president who was being held to these phony standards. The violation was in reporting this inconsequential yet not-for publication chatter.

And it still cracks me up that he is being held to account by those who are so blinded by their hate they are losing their humanity...certainly their senses. Relax...there'll be another election.

Thank your lucky stars you don't have a government that includes a real socialist party and a seccessionalist party as well. Y'all would be bursting blood vessels from arsehole to breakfast.

Healthy banter perhaps but at least be in control of the situation.
The press led him where he should not had gone.

Then we shall simply have to agree to disagree on that count. The most important element is that celebrity status has not put West above reproof for his bad manners.

I hadn't been on here in awhile, but just wanted to comment on this one. I think I myself think MORE highly of Obama that he saw that Kanye was being an A** and had the gonads to say so!!!!! It shows he didn't pick racial sides, you know...I actually thought the president would've defended Kanye because I did think he was partial to his race, this proved he is not, he is fair in his judgement! I applaud Obama!!!!

Jackass West did it so he could get back into the spotlight. It doesn't matter if the attention is positive or negative. Its all the same to him. I watched his antics last night for the 1st time. He was a jackass. Even Beyonce was shocked and mouthed. "No he didn't!"

KW is an idiot
Obama is right!
